Okay so here's the rundown. SS 2bdr Jan 7-14
Case. ME(23), BF(25), BF mom(50?), BF sister (11), BF brother (23), brother's GF (23)

First trip for Bf brother and GF

Anyway, I have always stayed at OKW, love it. But it wasn't available only SS. I just need to know that I will like it. I hear mixed things too big, food sucks, stuff like that.

I guess you could say I am a OKW brat, I've been staying there since I was 8!

I requested a Downtown Disney View, but are there certain sections of the resort I should request.

I just need some reassuarnce. I'm sure it will be fine. I'm just one of those people who stress over stupid things.

Any tips, info, advice would be great.
Thanks
jen

Just came back from a business trip to Orlando. We just bought at SSR and I wanted to see what it was like. I did not stay in a room there but spent about 2 hours walking around the resort. I was VERY IMPRESSED. Loved the grounds, views are great of DTD. Ate breakfast at AP. It was great, and cooked to order. It is a short walk or boat ride to DTD. We are staying there in December, at BCV in march and will try for OKW in August. I looked at all the DVC resorts except OKW and was impressed with all of them. Could not compare SSR to OKW, but I am sure OKW is beautiful too.

Remember one great feature of DVC is the ability to try other resorts. I am sure you will enjoy trying something new. Have fun!

We stayed at SSR with our inlaws for the first time and they were very impressed. The staff was very helpful and the rooms were very nice. Have a great time and enjoy

We really like OKW, we "love" SSR.

It's new, I love the room decor, the landscaping, the colors of the buildings, the staff is always so friendly to us.

Artist Pallette, is the "best" CS at Disney in my opinion. Fresh food that is not your regular greasy burgers, fries and chicken tenders.

It is a large property but so are many others including OKW. We have been in Congress Park and the Paddocks and did not feel far from anything.

Transportation was comparable to all Disney resorts, great at times, ok at others.

It is not OKW, rooms are smaller, at least the living, dining, kitchen and laundry room are. The bedrooms and bath are the same.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised if you will let yourself be. :thumbsup2

We just got back from our bc trip, but I own at SSR so I had to go & check out the resort. They let me look at all the different rooms, & they were really beutiful & new. I do think it is a huge resort, it would be great to have your car there. My kids thought the pool was cool, they can not wait to stay there. I am glad to hear you love OKW, because we are staying there for the first time in Dec. We always stayed at the poly before becoming DVC members, & I must say I am really loving trying all the different resorts.

Stayed there twice so far. It is our home base. We realy liked it. We all jhad a great time.

Stayed at ssr 3 times. Have not been disappointed there or any dvc for that matter.

SSR is also our home resort. This past July we splurged and stayed at the WL and then used some points for the Polynesian. Although we had a very nice time...we missed SSR. We love the feel of the resort...the pool is great...the hot tubs are awesome...the spa..ahhh....and the bus service was great when we were there last. We ended up waiting a long time for buses several times between the WL/Poly this past July. We never waited too very long at SSR because they do not share their buses. Also, having DTD within walking distance is awesome! So many cool places down there...restaurants..shops...Pleasure Island..etc. We did not have the option of the sit down restaurant at SSR when we were there last...as it was not opened yet.

I cannot wait until we return to SSR....its a "10" in our book.

have a great trip!

We own SSR, BCV and VWL and by far SSR is our HOME - the others are fabulous but there is something about driving into SSR that takes my breathe away. We enjoy DTD and spending our evenings just hanging out there. Now that we are DVCers and don't commando the parks it is so nice to relax and SSR is great for that!

We love SSR and I hope you guys do to. The pool is great and so is the spa. We have stayed there 3 times and can't wait to go back. The walk to DTD is great and so is the boat ride. Have a wonderful stay.

it is spread out. more than i like but it is a beautiful resort. the rooms are great. i think you will be just fine

You're kidding, right? DISNEY... :sunny:

We've stayed at SSR a few times, and we love it! I especially love the quiet pool that overlooks DTD. Also, I love that you can walk to DTD so quickly. It looks like a long walk but it's so short! It's awesome! I love OKW too, but I'm coming to love SSR just as much :) You'll have a blast! If you don't like the food at SSR, walk over to DTD. There is much to like there (like Ghirdelli!)

We stayed at SSR last December and although the rooms were beautiful, the resort was quiet, the staff was very friendly, the store was convenient and DTD is very close (we always spend our late nights there), I just didn't feel like I was on vacation. We are from New England and I grew up 15 mins. from the real Saratoga Springs in upstate NY so to me, the look of the resort just didn't give me that "I'm on vacation" feeling. It felt more like I was staying in the luxury condo development where DH and I had our first apartment.

I guess it's all in the perspective of what you're looking for. For example, I would never stay at Fort Wilderness as I'm not the "wilderness" type, but my in-laws love the thought of staying there as they are very outdoorsy type people.

Good luck and I do hope you enjoy your trip!

We're heading down for our second trip to SSR and we can't wait. We loved it when there were only 2 sections opened now we can't wait to see the rest.

I have to admit...I have the same apprehension about SSR as the OP. We own at VWL and have stayed at every DVC property in WDW, except SSR. I'm just not as excited about staying there as other resorts.

We are staying there beginning Sept 29 for 4 nights, so I'll let you know how it goes!

You wont be disappointed, very, very nice! DTD just an easy walk away, all lit up at night but quiet. Great bus service, good eats, new Turf Club with great food. Nice theme pool and great quiet pools. Great walk way along the lake. Enjoy!!!!!

It is fun to try new resorts. I have been to all of the onsite DVCs and I like SSR the best. I really enjoy the quiet calm suroundings. There are alot of fountians, water views, beautiful landscaping. My favorite view is DTD. It is magical. I loved the turf club. Great martinis, great food.

My kids are getting older and just love it too. (16, 13,11). They like the close proximity to DTD, the pools, community hall, and Artist Pallete, playing pool at the Turf club..

Give it a try. If you don't like it there are many other choices for next time! My guess is that you will like it.

Edited to say: If you ask for DTD view and can't get it, there are garden views at Congress Park that still over look DTD. It may overlook the quiet pool, and beyond that is DTD. Get one that is on an upper floor.

We fell in love with SSR the day we checked in, not only was the decor wonderfull but the whole area was just beautifull. You can walk around the lakes and listen to the fountains watch the rabbits and the boats going back and forth, a beautifull pool and spa state of the art workout room, the wonderfull walkways to DTD, we even play tennis on the clay courts which has a ice cold water fountain. Bus stops are nearby and the Turf Club is great. A very nice collection of gifts snacks wines etc.Just relax youll love it.
