Saratoga Springs=A Dissappointed DVCer

It depends on the type of resort. IF any other resorts are built, CR would make it a little easier, EP would make it a lot harder. The two together would still make it harder due to the likely size difference.

Not heat directed at you, LOL, just the aggregate postings over the last couple of years of people who are too sensitive.

Couldn't agree more. Either stop building all together (yea right), or build similar situations to what is in the highest demand. To us that means convenience to an area called "Walt Disney World"-you may have heard of it. Folks go to the middle of Florida because of WDW, if they just wanted nice resorts and golf etc they would go to the coasts of Florida and enjoy the ocean. When people go to the mountains that want to ski in and out on the hill resorts and will pay more for that, not take a bus. I realize you cant build one resort that is next to every park, but at least next to one or on the monorail will aleviate the situation IMHO.

I stand by my statement of TRASH. I have stayed at VWL, OKW and SSR. During my last trip at SSR, my family and I witnessed alot of trashy people. People smoking all around the pool. People allowing their children to eat IN the zero entry portion of the pool. We also heard foul mouthed people at the pool and all over the resort.

I am by no means a snob, but the people at SSR really bothered me. These people were most likely renters and due to the size of SSR the resort will always have the most amount of renters.

Does that mean I am trash? :teeth:

Really, could have been a bad day. I hate to see people stereotype a whole resort by one group of people at the pool and around the resort.

WOW!!!!!!!!! :earseek:

While I believe that your experience was annoying, by a few people you encountered at the pool, (it certainly would have been to me), I have never experienced what you are describing in my 3 visits to SSR.

I agree that it may have been a bad day, but lumping everyone staying there into a category as derogatory as "trash" is just wrong!! I can't for the life of me believe that no one has EVER, eaten where they shouldn't have, smoked where they shouldn't have, or said a foul word at OKW or any of the other DVC resorts, for that matter. Please think about your generalizations!! This was mean and offensive to many SSR members on this board, myself included!

I think I need to stop reading these boards!! ::yes::

I can't agree with your attitude of, "if you don't like it, just don't say anything and move on."

I don't think I said that. I believe I said that if something is broken or needs to be fixed, to contact the appropriate department (housekeeping, maintenance, etc.), get it fixed and move on. I never said just live with it. I would have been all over the front desk and housekeeping if my bathroom was not cleaned properly...TWICE in your case!!

I had a problem with housekeeping at POFQ this past winter and while I had to contact them several times to clean my bathtub, I never went on the boards to report it. That would have undoubtedly started a whole post about " what is wrong with POFQ" and all that don't care for it would have joined.

Please don't take that the wrong way...you did have a number of issues that needed to be addressed with your recent stay. My beef comes from all of the folks who came on and added their comments, sarcastic or otherwise, to bash the resort. If the place is not for you...that is fine, you are entitled to your opinion. Just don't tell me that something that I enjoy is substandard, trashy (to quote another poster) or a big loser for Disney. I don't believe that is the case with SSR.

Peace and happy holidays!

Threads like this one make me *really* glad I was insistent with my guide and told him I wanted to buy at VWL, not SSR. I haven't seen SSR yet, and despite some of the negative things in this thread, I think that I'll like it. Nevertheless, if I had bought at SSR, reading about how lots of people don't care for it would make me very nervous that I'd never be able to stay anywhere else once SSR sells out and there are a lot of people all vying for other resorts at the seven-month mark.

I own at VWL, and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to stay at SSR if I want to. However, if I owned at SSR, I'd be a lot less confident that I'd be able to stay at VWL if I wanted to.

I did not like the people at SSR. Lots of trash

Oh my. That's quite a broad generalization, isn't it? I'm sure every Disney resort has its fair share of good and bad guests.

How is that an SSR problem? I'm pretty sure that could've happened anywhere.

You must be a peach to be around. I wonder what people thought of you? Lighten up! :rotfl:

I had to laugh about the toliet paper. I always bring some Charmin with me, and purchase more at Publix while I'm there. I hate cheap toliet paper. :crazy2:

our friends asked us "so how many points does good toilet paper cost?"

It is posts like this that give DVCer's such a bad reputation. We love SSR, if you don't like it, don't stay there...better yet stay off site..then you'll really have something to complain about

Mr Fitz,

It appears when you are talking about "trashy", I feel that you must be describing yourself. So please keep your "trashy" self out of my "home".

Tsk tsk on the ad hominems.

I can hear the padlock clicking now...

I hesitate to say this but maybe I am an approriate person to comment on the theming of SSR. I live in Saratoga Springs, NY and have for 34 years. I can tell you the theming of SSR stinks. I agree totally with the OP, it is grealty lacking in theme. Dr. Tomorrow stated that the theming at the DVC Resorts are great, like them or not. Not true in the SSR case. A bugle playing and horse pictures does not constitute theming. Saratoga is a gambling town, always has been always wil be. Sure horse racing is a big part but there was casino gambling in the past as well. Big wigs from NYC made it there summer home. It is a victorian town from an archictecture standpoint. SSR really is just a slightly modified BCV look. It looks like a typical DVC Resort. SSR was simply put a poorly planned out resort. Come on, no pool side dining, no sit down restaurant yet, no room service, hard to find if any bellman. It is a glorified condo resort. It also has no direct access to a theme park. You must bus everywhere. DVC is simply too much money to buy into to stay at a "resort" with these limited services. AP if it was to be the only food service available is way to small with a very limited menu. As others have stated DTD is packed and 2 hour waits are the norm. Expecting guests to go there was laughable. Now SSR bashers and other resort bashers have been flamed on these boards. Flaming someone for there dislike of a resort is uncalled for. These boards are supposed to be a free exchange of opinions and ideas. Please don't turn these boards into a place where only glowing reviews will be posted for fear of flaming. To the OP I couldn't agree more with your views. Sorry about your crummy stay.

p.s. BCV, BWV, and VWL owners utilize your 4 month booking advantage because I and others will be booking your resort at 7 months. SSR for now is the least booked resort and will IMO continue to be that way. It needs many improvements. Flmae suit on! :rotfl:

DAVE

Well, Dave (aka as Mr know it all?????)
I hope it continues to be the least booked resort.
Again you have expressed your feelings here as if they are facts.

It's kind of funny how everyone is jumping on me because I stated how I felt about SSR. BTW, it was not just one day, we were there for 10 days and we witnessed this behavior for the majority of our trip. SSR has lots of renters. I think I met more renters than owners on my trip. Bottom line, the people we expirienced at SSR were disgusting, rude, and not the type of people I would want to associate with. I am not saying that SSR owners are mean or trashy. My point is there will be more renters at SSR than any other resort.

Well there you go. All Disney has to do is institute gambling at SSR and it will become the hottest ticket in town. Come on sevens, baby needs a new pair of shoes...

Probably true. I don't know. We only met one set of people that were not owners but they had gone through a TA to get the room. I expect right now there are a lot of renters.

But one way to solve that - stop renting.

I am not saying that SSR owners are mean or trashy.
Well that is good. But there are trashy people everywhere. If you want a higher clientelle staying there, do one of two things. 1- Stop renting or 2 - Rent at a much higher cost that will weed out those "trashy" (using your term) people. However, there are some well to do people that certainly do act "trashy".

My point is there will be more renters at SSR than any other resort.
Probably for now because it isn't sold out and at this point its almost guaranteed you can get in there no matter what. I suspect that when it gets closer to selling out it will be a bit harder to get in there. Only time will tell though.

How can you be suprised that people are jumping on you? With one sweeping generalisation you said that you do not like people at SSR because they are trash.

I own at SSR, I haven't experienced what you have. However, you have offended me a hell of a lot!

Your comment is, to me, far more disgusting and rude than any people smoking, swearing etc could ever be; it was ignorant beyond belief!

Don't worry, Daitch, I won't Flmae [sic] you! :rotfl2:

Guess you've never been to Yaddo. Or looked into the historic health spas that helped put SS, NY on the map.

Yeesh, Daitch, you might at least dust off an "IMHO" now and then! :rotfl2: You, as always, make the erroneous jump from SSR's "lack of" service offerings to the conclusions that it is poorly planned out. With all due respect, just because YOU feel that a resort must have certain amenities for it it meet the "Daitcher Seal of Approval" doesn't mean that most - or even a substantial minority - agree with you. Of the list you mentioned: pool dining, sit-down restaurant, room service, bell services - we rarely use them even when we go to a resort that offers them. Maybe we're more hardy do-it-yourselfers who can handle our own luggage; maybe we've outgrown the "Oooooh, a Room Service Menu" phase; maybe there are people who like the smell of chlorine with their Filet Mignon. Whatever. My point still stands - just because you don't like it doesn't mean that it won't meet the needs of other, less demanding, DVCers.

It's the Solstice season, and we're off to 2 nights at OKW followed by 4 nights at DVC's Poorly-Planned-As-Certified-By-Daitcher SSR resort for some time with our adult son. So, if you need interior hallways, porters to get your luggage and people to bring your food, may The Universe bless you and give you all that you need.

Me, I'm considering myself so blessed that I have a wonderful wife, great son, financial security with a satisfying job and the opportunity to spend the near-holidays at SSR.

Be well!
IMHO - YMMV
