I hesitate to say this but maybe I am an approriate person to comment on the theming of SSR. I live in Saratoga Springs, NY and have for 34 years. I can tell you the theming of SSR stinks. I agree totally with the OP, it is grealty lacking in theme. Dr. Tomorrow stated that the theming at the
DVC Resorts are great, like them or not. Not true in the SSR case. A bugle playing and horse pictures does not constitute theming. Saratoga is a gambling town, always has been always wil be. Sure horse racing is a big part but there was casino gambling in the past as well. Big wigs from NYC made it there summer home. It is a victorian town from an archictecture standpoint.
Guess you've never been to Yaddo. Or looked into the historic health spas that helped put SS, NY on the map.

SSR really is just a slightly modified BCV look. It looks like a typical DVC Resort. SSR was simply put a poorly planned out resort. Come on, no pool side dining, no sit down restaurant yet, no room service, hard to find if any bellman. It is a glorified condo resort. It also has no direct access to a theme park. DAVE
Yeesh, Daitch, you might at least dust off an "IMHO" now and then!

You, as always, make the erroneous jump from SSR's "lack of" service offerings to the conclusions that it is poorly planned out. With all due respect, just because YOU feel that a resort must have certain amenities for it it meet the "Daitcher Seal of Approval" doesn't mean that most - or even a substantial minority - agree with you. Of the list you mentioned: pool dining, sit-down restaurant, room service, bell services - we rarely use them even when we go to a resort that offers them. Maybe we're more hardy do-it-yourselfers who can handle our own luggage; maybe we've outgrown the "Oooooh, a Room Service Menu" phase; maybe there are people who like the smell of chlorine with their Filet Mignon. Whatever. My point still stands - just because you don't like it doesn't mean that it won't meet the needs of other, less demanding, DVCers.
It's the Solstice season, and we're off to 2 nights at OKW followed by 4 nights at DVC's Poorly-Planned-As-Certified-By-Daitcher SSR resort for some time with our adult son. So, if you need interior hallways, porters to get your luggage and people to bring your food, may The Universe bless you and give you all that you need.
Me, I'm considering myself so blessed that I have a wonderful wife, great son, financial security with a satisfying job and the opportunity to spend the near-holidays at SSR.
Be well!
IMHO - YMMV
