Can soemoen please explain Sartoga Springs to me? The theme? Someoen mentioned they are going to ahve a great pool along the lines of SAB!?! Anyoen herad anything about the pool? Zero depth? Is this resort close to anything? DTD, right? Is thsi resort going to be a hit you think, or not? Any opening adtes planned yet?
Thanks!

Disney has not released any real information about the resort yet. It is scheduled to open in Spring, 2004 and is under construction at this time. It will be themed around the community of Saratoga Springs - in upstate NY. Many of the buildings already in place for the former Disney Institute also fit with that theme.

There are some pictures of artist renderings available for view on the Member's Only site.

No info about room sizes, points needed, room layout, sales price or sales date as yet.

Stay Tuned!

Not only is Disney not releasing any information, they do not look kindly on people looking around. When we were there 2 weeks ago, DS #1 and I drove over with the hopes of looking around. The guard at the gate didn't seem to mind at all. And before we turned down any streets, I looked to see if there was a "do not enter" sign. Things seemed to be OK (Hey, guess I can report back to the DVC board on the DIS) when I looked in the rear-view mirror and saw a security vehicle, lights going, quickly bearing down on us. When we stopped, she pulled up next to us and told us in no uncertain terms that we must leave immediately! Then she followed us (very closely I might add) to make sure we left. At the guard gate she honked and told us again "Leave right now!" So sorry-no report on Sarasota Springs!

Wow...why are they being so scretive about ti all? With less than a year away you woudl think there woudl eb more info about it?

Here are some construction photos of SSR from 2+weeks ago.

The construction site itself has warning signs posted all around warning that it is private property and tresspassers are not welcome. It may be a little easier to take a look on foot than by car, but the security is certainly a presence in the area!

I have a feeling that they don't want you around for saftey reasons. This is a hard hat zone and in this day and age they are probably afraid that if you get hurt you will sue!

The one potential problem I see with the Saratoga Springs is it is right across from PI which will present a noise problem I would think. Like Doc said Saratoga Springs will look like its namesake in upper state NY. I wonder if they will have a race track there also? ;)

ncligs.....how did I know you would have something to add to this???;) :D

We stayed at the Villas some years ago, and our room overlooked Downtown Disney and the Fulton Crab House, at that time it was the Empress Lilly. We could lay in bed and see the Empress all lit up at night, it was beautiful. I promise you there was no noise problem at all.

If it has an awesoem pool we might wait and add on there. It is hard to tell in the artist rendering if it is zero depth. Are there any other resorts close to there besides the non Dinsey DTD htoels? Would it take forever to get to any of the parks? Did DI have a walkway that connected to DTD? I wonder if this woudl be good or a problem? (Say peopel walking over form DTD to check out the resort late at night?)

No race track from what I hear but I do think they are trying to go more along the lines of what Saratoga Springs was originally famous for which is the waters and spa's. You see we have many natural springs here and the waters are said to have cured many illnesses and was a haven in the victorian era. Ulysses S. Grant came this way during his final days to get out of the city.
So if you think more along the spa line you may have a better understanding of the concept. I hope anyway.
Other things famous from Saratoga,

The Potatoe Chip
Girls # 1 Cross Country Running team for several years
home of Dennis Franz NYPD BLue
home of Niles From Frazier David Hyde Pierce
Skidmore College
Battle of Saratoga turning point of the revalutionary war
and the list goes on!
think Victorian Architecture!

So SSR might ahve a victorian theme? It just didn't look that way from the artist renderings...?

And of course Funny Cide! He was born at a breeding farm just east of the city.

I'm looking forward to seeing how they turn this resort town into a resort. ;)

I seem to recall them being a little "testy" when OKW was being built oh so many years ago, about people wandering around the construction site(DH and I were there on our honeymoon and were being nosey!). My guess is that it's a liability issue rather than a "keep it secret" issue. It is a construction site, with a high possibility for injury.

My guess is that Disney has already taken the noise factor into consideratin, and will plan the arrnagement of the buildings accordingly. From the artist's renderins I've seen, it looks like it's going to be beautiful.

I'm thinking along the lines of a pool with areas of spas bubbling up sort of "melded" into the pool area, so it's not a "pool is here, hot tub is over there" kind of thing like some pof the resorts are. More along the lines of SAB, which has the little waterfall and the little cove-like areas, and the hot tub is kind of part of the landscaping in a way.

How silly of me not to mention Funny Cide! We stayed at Jack Knowlton's condo last Thanksgiving while mom was across the road at Disney HH. What a nice man!

I hope the pool is designed to screen out unwanted pool crashers with appropriate security. Being next to DD and all the offsite hotels, there is probably more potential for non-disney resort guests and locals to drop in for a free swim, when they find thier own pool is lacking. Just a thought.

There have been several articles about Disney's Saratoga Springs in the Member Clubhouse email. I recall them talking about the pool and landscaping, among other things.

Maybe someone out there has them saved and can post them for those of you who may have missed the info.
