Saratoga or Old Key West?

We just came back from OKW, and did not care for it at all. We like SSR, it is a newer resort with a nicer layout in my opinion. The ability to have a nice breakfast at artists beats have a lesser breakfast at goods to go. The two breakfasts did not compare. We are usually on dining plan so it is very important for us. If you aren't on dining plan then it may not matter. Maybe we just had a bad experience with our stay, but the rooms we stayed in seemed run down and the beds were VERY uncomfortable. So, I vote for SSR.
;)

We were in a Studio at OKW in Feb ...Very worn..Beds were 2 different heights. Weird. I am guessing because the position of the lower bed if it had been any higher we would have gotten no sleep. The way the room was positioned the light outside in the courtyard was shining directly through the Peephole. There was a circle of light on the headboard. If it had the newer higher mattress like the other bed it would have been shining right on someones head!!!!

SSR and OKW ... all you hear is spread out and "laid back". Blah. I am not thrilled with either but at times have to accept it when nothing else is available. If I want "laid back," I'll do my hammock in the back yard. When I go on vacation I want Disney resort magic. Give me BWV, BCV, CBR, WL, BLT... but please don't bore me with SSR and OKW. It all depends what you want. But spread out and laid back just isn't for me!

of the two, we prefer SSR.
we like the cleanliness of the resort, the friendlyy feel (everyone chats with one another - just like a small town), and found the transportation significantly better at SSR.
OKW is still a beautiful resort, we just found SSR more charming loved the stroll over to DTD or artist palette when we felt urge to dine out or shop :cloud9:

Just got back from staying at OKW and rooms are showing their age, I wish I had changed my res. to stay at SSR. They are currently rehabing OKW and I will not even considering staying there until the rehab I finish. ( I have been spoiled by staying at AKV,BLT, and all the other great resorts)

Now I'm a bit concerned. We chose OKW even tho we have stayed at SSR twice and loved it. Just thought we'd try something new. But I'm asthmatic and any mold smells would puit an end to our trip. I'm wondering how lucky we'd be in requesting a newly refurbished room. We are going the second week of December. Otherwise, I will change back to SSR.

We stayed on 5/12 & 5/13 in a one bedroom in bldg 42. There's was nothing wrong with the unit. Yes, the decor needs the facelift they are giving it, but everything worked and was clean - no odors, no mold. In December, we were in bldg 31 and, in March, in bldg 62. There was nothing wrong with either of those units either. In bldg 62, they had already replaced the carpet w/ the wood laminate flooring. I'm not sure where the awful rooms are at OKW, but we have never seen them.

One concern with OKW was there are not a lot of sidewalks making trips to bus stop or Hospitality House a little scary with all our little ones (6 - ages 3 and under, fortunately we had 6 adults to hang on to them) but inconvenient.... SSR has very nice paved paths throughout the resort.

???? I've always walked on sidewalks at OKW. Where are you not finding sidewalks? There is a short distance between building 15 and Miller's Road bus stop without sidewalk, but you mearly need to cross the street to get to one.

Personally we much prefer SSR to OKW. The resort is newer (cleaner & fewer maint. issues IMO). More food choices... Still convenient to DTD via water taxi...lots of really nice pools...

I agree. SSR would be my choice as well.

Never been to SSR but love, love, love OKW. I am from the northeast and like the the palm trees and the laid back feel. When I go to FL I want to feel like I am in FL not upstate NY. I can get that right here. It is also one of the only resorts with a basketball court unless they have put one in recently. I have teenage boys and this is a big draw for them. Also when you have teenagers the extra room is nice. Big feet, gangly bodies and they like to spread out. Never mind teenagers seem to breed more teenagers. There always seems to be more in the living room than we started out with. So I definatley like the extra room sizes at OKW.

We have stayed at OKW in various accommodations for the past eight years, twice a year the last three. Perhaps we've been lucky but we've never had an issue with our accommodations. The only bad rooms we've heard about are other folks comments on the DIS. We have stayed at SSR and OKW during a split stay. Both are very nice. Transportation at SSR was a little iffy during our stay. I don't think you will go wrong with either resort. But OKW is our favorite of the two.
