SARATOGA OR OLD KEY WEST?OCTOBER 14 NIGHTS AT ANY OF THESE FOR £1550 FOR 4 (OUR PARTY IS 2ADULTS AND 2 KIDS AGE 5 AND 12)INCLUDING DINING PLAN.WHICH IS BEST?:confused3

Both are great resorts. I would choose Saratoga for two reasons. First the proximity to DTD allows for lots of dining/entertainment options and second the pools at SSR are more kid friendly. Neither has great counter service options, but I would put SSR slightly ahead.

Have Fun!

I have stayed at both resorts. Deciding on which one really depends on your needs. If I was traveling with a larger group, I'd get a one bedroom at Old Key West. However, it is a very, very spread out resort. They also do not offer a counter service restaurant or food court. They do have a wonderful sit down restaurant called Olivia's. The resort itself is beautiful and very homey. I enjoyed my time there last spring.

Saratoga Springs is a much newer resort. Their one bedrooms are not as large as Old Key West's. It does offer both a food court and sit down restaurant. The theme of it does nothing for me though.

If I was getting a one bedroom, I'd go with Old Key West. If I was getting a studio, I'd go with Saratoga merely because of how it is set up. The studios in Old Key West have two beds instead of one. Their rooms are also much older.

Old Key West!!

Can't beat the size of the OKW 1 bedroom villas! There is boat transportation to DTD too!

Go here for a layout of the 1 bedroom villas OKW and here for SSR

I'd pick OKW, but I the one and only time I went to Saratoga was within the first year of opening.

Old Key West !

heh...

As you can see, you'll get fans of both resorts... There is no right answer.

Both are fine choices, you won't go wrong with either one of them.

(but key west is better ! )

It really depends on your preference. Both resorts have plusses and minuses. Old Key West has very large, welcoming villas. However, Saratoga Springs has better amenities in my opinion. The pool area at SSR is superior, plus SSR is closer to Downtown Disney.

If it were me, I'd choose SSR.

not to be disagreeable but they do have a counter service....it is called Goods to Go..........however it is a walk up outside counter with only about ten or twelve outside tables. the name really says it all. get your cheeseburger and fries and GO back to your room.

You can't go wrong with either choice, but I love OKW.

What size room? For 14 nights I'd go with OKW, because the rooms are bigger. You can move in and really feel at home. Request a room by the Hospitality House, and you won't have to worry about being too far from the pool, store, bus stop, Olivias, bar, etc. ( A request isn't a guarantee, they like to tell you that a lot!:)) In the one and two bdrm they have nice balconies with a table for 4, which is a plus too! They have some of the friendliest CM's on property, IMO.

We took our friends to OKW last summer and they were impressed.

DD is a short boat ride away, you can walk too. I did read on DVC boards, that you shouldn't walk on the DD path at dusk & beyond, because of the gators!:scared1:

is that for a studio or one bedroom?

if it's for a studio, keep in mind that the studio at saratoga has one queen bed and one sofa that opens up to a double bed....so that would mean your kids have to sleep in the sofabed..(or you do...someone has to)..

whereas, at the OKW, the studios have two queen beds.......

we actually prefer the sofa studios because in the awake times there is more room and it feels like a living room. also the one bedroom is the same at both properties as far as someone having to sleep on the sofabed.

FYI, our most recent Disney files talked about the new pool going in the Paddock area of SSR (to open in 2011), but it also mentioned that there will be a new walk-up counter service at the pool...

We picked a studio OKW over a studio at SSR because of the two queen beds. SSR has one queen bed and a full-size pull-out sofa.

We were used to staying in a moderate resort and felt that the studio at OKW gave us *plenty* of room so we weren't crawling all over each other. The balcony was really nice, too.

My parents came for a few days and got a 1BR and it was HUGE! I think it was bigger than the apartment DH and I had when we first got married!

I just love OKW. SSR just does nothing for me. I didn't care for the theme or the layout of the rooms at all and I was surprised how much smaller the rooms were compared to OKW. I love the size of the rooms at OKW and the whole feel of the place. We really enjoy Olivia's and eat there 2 or 3 times a trip. it is very spread out, but we always stay in the Miller Road section (no guarantee, but we've been lucky) it's a short walk to the HH and has a nice quiet pool. The only thing about OKW is the lack of elevators in most of the buildings. We were on the 3rd floor once and it is a HAUL up those stairs. I also really like all the palm trees and other vegetation at OKW, SSR seems very sparse to me.

I would pick OKW ~~ because the atmosphere is just so special ~~ it's such a beautiful and friendly resort ~~ full of Disney magic :wizard:

our home resort is WL but we recently stayed at saratoga springs and I have to say we were not happy with this resort. We were put in Congress Park not bad but not a view of DDD. We were 3 adults and my parents had the master and I was on the so called pull out couch. There is no way an adult could sleep on it pulled out, there is no mattress just a 3 section coverd 1 inch thick foam. I had to sleep on the couch with out the back pillows. The whole unit looked like it had been overlooked for Mousekeeping. We have never stayed at key west but i would hope that it is much better than our stay. I would also say at both places a rental car is also a must.
Hope this helps!!!!:thumbsup2

Thanks for all the help from everyone.i think i might go to saratoga as the pools sound better for the kids and we will use them some days to take a break from the parks.is it really unsafe to walk to dtd from this resort at night because of the gators!??
I am also looking for ideas for eating dinner at night at parks or dtd as we have a table service included in our dining plan although we will earmark 2 of these for a princess lunch or dinner.
I know many of you know which rooms are best and would appreciate help with room location.we will be in a studio and being near to dtd would be nice if the walk is safe or the boat if its not, near a bus stop for getting to parks and a quiet room(very important as i don't sleep well).don't mind being further from reception and main pool-if anyone knows how long a walk it is from the furthest room to here i would like to know.lastly does anyone know about how to get a buggy cheap like the ones disney has as my daughter is 5 and in disneyland paris in january we did use one for a few afternoons as she was bushed-i just don't fancy paying full price it would be a fortune.
;)

when the kids were little, we bought one of those really inexpensive umbrella strollers to take with us to WDW (we actually bought a double one, so both kids could sit in it).....we only used that stroller on trips to WDW...
needless to say, it was a lot cheaper than hiring a stroller at the parks every day...

i know there are some brits who head over to walmart when they first arrive to buy an inexpensive stroller there, but i don't know if you can do that...

have you asked this question on the UK board? the people on that board are a wealth of useful information - i've learned TONS over there..
