I just received the Disney annual report and it said that DVC is going so well that Saratoga Springs is planning to quadruple its capacity. I knew that originally there would be over 600 units, does this mean it will now be over 2,400 units??? And 90,000 members. Wow. When we joined in 1998 it was 30,000.

Wow, I don't know how they are going to do that.

Maybe the mean the total number of rooms at SSR will be quadruple the capacity of the other 4 existing resorts? I don't know how many total rooms are in the other resorts.

Unless they really are going to do something with those treehouse villas.

Here is the direct quote in case anyone wants to know

"Meanwhile, Disney Vacation Club (DVC) continues to benefit from the growing demand for new ways to vacation with Disney. More than 90,000 members have purchased long-term commitments to use one of seven designated vacation facilities. In order to keep up with the strong demand, Saratoga Springs, the most recent of seven dedicated DVC resorts, is planning to quadruple its capacity."

Ugh! I hate this idea! I love SSR, even though it's big. But if you quadrupled the plans for it, THAT would be way too big, imo.

I've a feeling it means quadruple from the original open building, Congress Park. I don't see how they could possibly quadruple the existing plan's, I don't think there's anywhere to build :confused3

Just a guess though.

Sounds like SSR will become SSSSR (Super Sized Saratoga Springs Resort).

If they quadruple the resort, they could build a lazy river around the entire complex. A pool bar at one end so you could grab a cold one for each lap. Wait a minute, I quit drinking five years ago. Just put in the lazy river.
Maybe they will go beyond quadruple. Five years from now I will be staying in the Old Key West section of SSR.

Oh gosh...that's hysterical. Thanks so much for the laugh!!!

SSR opened with 184 vacation homes. By the time the final phase (Phase III) is completed, there will be a total of 828 vacation homes, which is more than quadruple the initial capacity.

Ah, so basically it is going to be quadruple the initial opening. Which was the plan pretty much all along.

I guess it just sounds good to put it that way in the annual report ;)

Doesn't SSR already have over 800 rooms, now that all 3 sections are open? It sure seems like it! Now they are building over on the other side of check-in, toward the tree houses. That section was not part of the original plans, but was added when SSR began to sell so quickly. That new section of SSR has enough property to double the size of SSR, so maybe that's what they are talking about in the report. :confused3

The original plans for SSR called for a total of 552 units.

Around the time that SSR opened, DVD issued a press release (dated May 27, 2004) announcing plans to expand the property by another 276 units — bringing the total to 828 units. Those additional building are now under construction on the site of the old Fairway Villas, on the other side of the entrance road in the direction of the Treehouse Villas.

Here's what Disney's 2005 annual report says:

Meanwhile, Disney Vacation Club (DVC) continues to benefit from the growing demand for new ways to vacation with Disney. More than 90,000 members have purchased longterm commitments to use one of seven designated vacation facilities. In order to keep up with the strong demand, Saratoga Springs, the most recent of seven dedicated DVC resorts, is planning to quadruple its capacity.

The Disney annual report is simply saying that SSR opened with an inital phase of 184 villas. but there will eventually be a total of 828 vacation homes — which is more than quadruple the initial capacity. The wording in the annual report could have been better, because it doesn't say what's being quadrupled.
