What can anybody tell me about Sapphire Beach...Good...Bad...How's the snorkeling...particularly for kids? How far is it from where the ship docks? Thx.

We went to Sapphire in February. It was great!! Most of the beaches are a similar distance and taxi fare from the ship (I think it took us about 15 minutes and was $20 each way for 2 adults and 1 child). The water is gorgeous, the views of St. john and the British Virgin islands are incredible and the beach never got crowded. There is a resort right there so chairs, food, snorkeling equipment and bathrooms are all available. There is quite a bit of shade available on one end of the beach. I didn't snorkel but some who did said it was good and easy to get to right off of the beach. If you pack a soft-sided cooler with drinks, ice and snacks from the ship you'll be set for the day!

We stayed at Sapphire Bay a couple of years ago and loved it. It was in November and was not at all crowded. We were not aware of day-trippers using the beach.

If you are at the beach for the day, are you also able to use the pool?

P.S. SSCLDB -- were there still lots of BIG iguanas walking around when you were there in Feb.?

Don't know about the pool situation.

I didn't see any iguanas on the end of the beach where we were (towards the right as you look at the water) but a flock of ducks(!!) waddled by! Ducks on the beach?!

Day trippers do have to pay for chairs and equipment rental (it was pretty nominal) but we just brought several beach towels from the ship and sat in the shade of the trees. Very comfortable and very beautiful.
