So...we saw Santa at the beginning of December and my dd3 asked for a "toy horse" (referring to the Our Generation horses from Target). Fine.. they had tons of them in the store and they didn't seem to be a hot-ticket item. Two weeks ago, I went to Target and they had nothing in stock. I looked online and they only had brown ones left. Fine...she hadn't specified a color. I ordered a brown one and it arrived three days later (yeah free shipping)!
So last night, dd's wanted to go to "Santa's House" which is a house in our town that is decorated VERY extravagantly. The owners (a well-known older couple in town) have spent years purchasing window displays from various stores and they are recreated in individual display boxes that circle the house. Lots of lights, etc. It is really very interesting..... However, "Santa" always comes out to greet the children on Friday and Saturday nights. So I purposely waited until Monday to avoid any last minute "Santa" gift request changes...
Lo and behold, Santa came out anyway (because one family had come specifically to see Santa and was disappointed that he wasn't there). This was very kind of "Santa"....but, of course, a line formed and my kids hopped into line.
DD3 got up on Santa's lap and restated her list...this time clarifying that she really wanted a "WHITE toy horse, not a brown one". So, what does Santa say "Ok.....I'll have the elves make you one." I jumped in with a "Santa, I told her that the elves might already have made her a brown one" to which he said "We'll you have to wait and see on Christmas morning".
However, dd3 came home convinced that she had gotten her message to Santa about the white horse!
So, DH called every Target within a 40 mile radius last night and located ONE horse in a town 35 miles away. This morning, I drove over and picked it up. It is still in my car.....
What we do for our kid's holiday magic!!!
(but the 1 1/2 shopping trip on my own was a nice escape!)

Good for you for going out of your way to make your daughters Christmas all that more special.
