At what age did your child stop believeing? Did you tell them or did they ask you? What did you say?

I don't remember the age when older DS started asking. But, the answer was: If you don't believe in Santa, he will not come. I think he pestered me for about 2 or 3 years and then dropped it.

This year DS9 (10 in a week) started asking. We will give him the same answers. DS9 did not ask too seriously this year. I figure this is the last year he truly believes.

That is exactly what I told DD!! I am so glad I am not the only one. I told her bothers that and DS20 still says he believes so he will keep on coming.

My little girl 8 in the third grade, came home and said her friend said there wasn't a Santa Clause. I told her the same things as the others. I hope she continues for a long time.

My oldest DD is 8 and in second grade. She still believes but told me on the way to school on Tues. that some kids in her class don't believe in Santa. She didn't press me on the issue and I didn't say anything more than, "oh, what a shame." But I was caught off guard and DH and I are now thinking this may be her last believing Christmas. :( So we are so enjoying her belief this year and following Santa on Norad all day long!!! :)

Update: I showed DS9 the NORAD santa tracker. His comment: Ha! Now I can tell John that Santa is real. :lmao: BTW, did I mention that I love NORAD. :rotfl2:

BTW, John is a kid at school that is always in trouble and always causing trouble.

My DD10's 4th grade teacher told the class last week that it must be nice to have younger brothers and sisters that still believe in Santa ! My DD didn't tell me about it, I found out when the teacher sent an email apology. When I asked my DD about the conversation she said that some of her class believed and some didn't. So I asked her what the verdict was and she said that she hadn't believed since my Nephew told her he wasn't real 2 years ago. :sad2:

I tell my DD (11) the same. When shes asks I tell her I still believe. Tonight when we were tracking santa she questioned it but I dont think she would ever tell me she does not believe. Also she went to bed tonight as soon as she heard Norad.org say santa was going to North America! ;) She does this every year!!

When my youngest asked, I told him the truth. I remember being one of the last to believe and being teased about it at school. It was fun when he was little, and it's still fun now. This year, he's going to help "be" Santa in an hour or so and stuff his older sister's stocking.

Our reply is "if you don't believe, you don't receive". At our house Santa only brings one gift (but it's usually a big one) and Mom and Dad do the rest, so no one wants to miss out on the Santa gift, so we all believe. In all honesty though, my 8 years olds asked a lot of questions this year. My older two have really tried to keep i alive for them by telling tales of seeing Santa drop off gifts when they were younger. I'm glad they have believed this long - our second oldest (now 16) told his class when he was four that it was impossible and all the reasons why.

My oldest believes in Santa, but not the Easter bunny, because bunnies couldn't hide eggs and fill baskets. Somehow his logic is that a bunny is an animal, but Santa is a person.

My oldest DS started asking in 3rd and then again in 4th grade. In 4th I sat him down and told him that everyone had a choice. You could choose to believe in the magic of Santa (he had figured out it wasn't really possible so it must be "magic") or you could choose not to. I told him I believed in the MAGIC because I thought it was kind of sad not to believe. It's not just about the magic of Santa but the "magic" of the whole season - especially if you're religious at all (which we are). I don't think he believes in a guy coming down the chimney any more but he believes in the magic that the love of the season can bring which is just what I wanted!

We told our oldest when she was 3. We had already decided that we weren't going to make a big deal out of Santa in our home. He was just going to be a wonderful character in many wonderful stories. However, when store clerks and others started asking my oldest what santa was bringing her, etc, she started to think he may be real. It totally freaked her out. She couldn't sleep. She was asking to go away and not be at home Christmas Eve stuff like that. She was terrified at the thought of someone coming into our house at night while we were sleeping. Didn't matter that he was going to leave her toys or any of that. She did not want a stranger in our house. So to relieve her fears, we told her the truth.
