I'm flying into Santa Ana airport next week for my big first Disneyland trip. Is this airport easy to get in and out of? I'm renting a car but I'm not familiar with the area and I don't want to get lost.

What is the best way to get in and out of the airport? Is there freeway access or am I better off taking side streets to and from Disneyland?

I'm mostly in the same boat as you. The last time I went though that airport was about 20 years ago. But I google-mapped from the airport to my hotel, studied the overhead photo and did the street view of the directions it looks fairly easy. Rental places are pretty good on getting you directions out of there so I think between them and my google map I should be set. Good Luck.

Fingers crossed. I'm sure I'll get the "You just go here then turn here then..." spiel from them but if they have maps I should be fine unless the airport is like DFW then I'll most likely be stuck there for days.

SNA is a great airport to get in and out of. In 2007, I rented a car and was able to navigate easily. This was amazing because I had lived in a town of 10,000 for 3 years. Take it as you want, but this country girl was able to do it. Unfortunately, this time we have to fly into LAX. I am going with a car service for this one. You'll have no problems.

Sounds like I can leave the white knuckles at home.

It's not really that bad. You don't need the white knuckles. We took surface streets because we went Huntington Beach for a couple of days before DLR. I prefer the surface streets. Last October, we drove instead of flying. Heading back east from DLR on the freeway, some guy just about sideswiped me and several people just stopped in the middle of the road for no apparent reason. Surface streets for me!!!!

We have plenty of bad drivers where I come from. I'm all about freeways when they're available. Thanks for the tips.

Oh yeah, and the takeoffs and landings can get a little crazy. Very steep. It's because of noise or something I think.

Sounds like madness. Planes take off over my place all day long every day. They don't do it vertically as a convenience to me. I think I need to write some letters to my congressman.

Yep. I don't remember my landing there, but on the way out they were sure to let us know that take-off would be VERY steep and fast, and then we would level out quickly and it was all on purpose. I was glad for the warning, most definitely!

Just googled the airport, as I've found that airport websites can be very helpful, and look here. Combine that with a normal map from the area to Disneyland, and you're probably fine!

Thank you!

If you can handle the Jersey area airports, Santa Ana will be a walk in the park...one Chuck from Jersey to another.

SNA airport is really easy to get in and out from. All the rental cars are located in the parking structure across from the terminal. As you're leaving the airport, you can merge directly onto the 55 Freeway, bypassing any surface street driving to find an on ramp. Anyhoo, 55N, 5N, exit Disney Way or Harbor Blvd, and you're on your way to the magic. Feel free to send a PM if you have any questions. Have a wonderful trip!

Now THAT is what I call detailed information. I think I've found my favorite person on this board!
