Sanibel Or Marco Island?

They have counters you can stand at and eat but its not a big place so if they are busy you may find little counter area to use. But if you go outside they have picnic tables that are pretty shady and a few benches with umbrellas to sit and eat on as well.

We liked Lighthouse Beach, short walk from the car to the beach, but a hike to the facilities there.

We also like Bowman's Beach but that is a good hike from the car to the beach but they have decent facilities and its really quiet and very pretty there with the reserve being close by.

The beach is very rough to walk on due to the over abundance of shells so I'd have a good pair of beach shoes to wear because my feet weren't used to being out of shoes and it was painful for me.

Make sure you stop on the causeway in one of the pull off areas and take photos we did that on more then one occasion even saw a few dolphins from there.

Make sure you try and catch at least 1 sunset from Captiva. Follow Sanibel Captiva road all the way to the end of the road there is a parking area and from there the sun looks as if it is going under the water and was one of the most awe inspiring things I have ever seen.

If you feel like going for a ride try going over to Ft. Myers Beach we loved the sand there and it had the Boardwalk feel for us where as Sanibel was more peaceful and serene.

Prepare yourself for afternoon storms, if you see clouds rolling in and your on a beach that parking is further away like bowman's use caution and head in rather then wait for it to arrive.

Take time to explore the island, take side roads, just explore and relax we had a great time and pretty much did much of nothing more then beach and 1 round of Mini Golf in Fort Myers for 7 days and was really relaxing.

We stayed on the Ft. Myers side of the Bridge at the Country Inn and Suites and since we are FL residents got a great package but we found that worked best for us so we had the option of doing something on either side and didn't have to cross over to Sanibel everyday if we felt like doing something else.

If you do go Mini Golfing Smuggler's Cove is fun but its very up and down stairs, and if its hot out and humid bring water and prepare to sweat off 10 lbs. We did and we had a Blast but it was definitely an "adventure" Course as they describe it.

Bunche Beach is close by to the CI&S that we stayed at which is 1 mile from the toll plaza over to Sanibel so its about maybe at most 2 miles from the Tolls (the beach) has great views of both FMB and SI but bring bug spray if you go there in the evening. If its low tide the beach is huge, high tide and barely any beach, its so amazing to see the difference in it. Because of that the sea life such as crabs are easily seen scurrying back to the water.

Speaking of Tolls: its $6 to go from Ft. Myers to Sanibel but no toll going back over. So if you do go off the Island that is an expense you'll want to plan for.

Hard to think of everything that we did and saw not feel the ping of "go back now" calling me LOL.

Matzaluna is really good (their lobster bisque was incredible). We also like the Mucky Duck (on Captiva)...Lighthouse Cafe (which is near Pinocchio's) has an incredible breakfast (and dinner is good too). Speaking of Pinocchio's...terrific ice cream! I love the Sanibel Island Crunch...DS prefers the Captiva Crunch. Hungry Heron is OK...nothing special....just OK. Cheeburger Cheeburger is an institution....get the 1/2 rings 1/2 fries and share it (if you like onion rings).

Hmmm....I'll try to think of others!

I was asking co-workers and they said there's not much to do at all on Marco or Sanibel and that I should try Ft. Meyers - now I'm really confused!

I agree-the islands are low keyed, laid back and beautiful!
But for the chock-a-block touristy stuff (putt-putt water parks and CROWDS-that is what Ft, Meyers is for)

DH and I just got back from Captiva, which is at the end of Sanibel Island. We really loved it. We stayed at Tween Waters Inn, ate at the Bubble Room, ;)

How did you like Tween the Waters?

Could you walk to the Bubble Room from there?

TIA

Not much to do on Sanibel? Well, we've been going there for years and still haven't run out of things to do! I will say though, that I'm pretty content to walk the beach, collect shells, ride bikes, play tennis, go for ice cream (yum, Sanibel Island Crunch), play with my kiddo, etc. We're not much on the touristy types of places.

As far as walking to the Bubble Room from Tween Waters, the answer would be well, you COULD....but I wouldn't! It's about 3+ miles of road that isn't very wide and I don't remember seeing sidewalks there. Also, while Bubble Room has good desserts....their dinner is eh (and skip the Bubble Bread!).

After a trip to the :lovestrucWorld:lovestruc we're on Sanibel right now. DH has summered here since infancy and can probably answer any questions anyone may have.

We just picked up dessert at the Bubble Room. They have TDF red velvet cake and orange crunch for anyone w/a sweet tooth.

My friend just got back from a week on Sanibel. I haven't talked to her yet but they go every year and she loves it.
