Hi, I will be visiting the west coast of Florida this summer and staying in Venice. I would like to visit Sanibel/Captiva area (I have never been) and possibly stay there a nite or two so I could really enjoy/explore the area. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a place to stay in the Sanibel area that is budget friendly but nice and clean:) ?? There seems to be PLENTY to choose from that is why I would like a recommendation. Also any GOOD restaurants?? Thanks for the help :). Joan

For a short stay I woud choose the Holiday Inn. It's right on the beach though the rooms don't have great views. The restaurant on the property - - Courtney's - is excellent and has a wonderful Early Bird. Hard to believe, I know, but check out the reviews on Trip Advisor.

Another good place for lunch or dinner is Doc Ford's. The Yucatan Shrimp is amazing. They have a website so you can look at their menu and prices.

I grew up visiting Sanibel, and continue to go with my kids yearly. As for places to stay, the only place we have stayed other than my grandparent's home, was the Casa ybel resort. They are nice condos on the beach.
Sorry I'm not much help there.

As for food, I don't think Sanibel has great choices, personally. THE best fish and chips's I've ever had though are from Schnapper's Hots. It's a great little "shack" off of Periwinkle Dr. It's a must if you like Fish and Chips-if it's in season, the Grouper is amazing. The fries are great too. Just be forewarned, there's not much room to ea there, a few bar stools, so usually you will be eating outside- in the heat! http://www.schnappershotssanibel.com/

If you want something fun, we always visit the Bubble Room in Captiva. The food is pretty good, the desserts are fantastic, but the atmosphere is what wins for us. It's an old antique shop that's filled to the brim with crazy stuff. Check it out:http://www.bubbleroomrestaurant.com/frameset.html

For a nice(pricey) place, The Green Flash on Captiva is wonderful. It's waterfront, and very nice.

For breakfast, we like Amy's. It's on Perwinkle as well on Sanibel. http://www.overeasycafesanibel.com/

Have a great time-we love Sanibel!

I've also stayed at the Casa Ybel. Unfortunately, it rained the whole time we were there, but we liked Sanibel.

Hi, The Casa ybel resort looks REALLY nice!!:) But a little much for just a night or two. Since our trip to Sanibel will be a vacation within a vacation. And I LOVE the look of the Over Easy Cafe, I think we found our breakfast spot!!:thumbsup2 Thanks, Joan
