Struggling here trying to make everything go smooth for our upcoming trip. We are flying from Missouri into Sanford on Allegiant Air to arrive at 10:10 p.m. on Sunday, 11/30. We have a rental car reserved with Alamo and I'm getting ready to send in our deposit on a condo at Windsor Palms. Our return flight on Friday, 12/5 leaves at 7:50 a.m. The early morning flight doesn't exactly thrill me. Would it be really crazy to check out of the condo on Thursday evening and stay in a hotel near the Sanford Airport? We are trying to keep costs down on this trip so it would have to be something cheap.

For those of you who have flown into Sanford and stayed in the area of Windsor Palms .. what would you suggest???

We stayed at Windsor Palms and drove several times to MCO. In good traffic it was 20 minutes.

I understand Sanford is 45 minutes from WDW... add another 15 from Windsor Palms... in good traffic you are looking at 1 hour (others who know will probably give you a more accurate time estimate)

Given that it is morning and you may have rush hour traffic to contend with, it isn't a bad idea to stay near the airport for that last night.

If I were going to Sanford, I would take the 417 - generally a fast road. It does have tolls, but other than that it has been fine.

I haven't driven to Sanford to catch a flight, but have to pick up relatives. It does take approx 1 hour. I have been to MCO for an early morning flight and at that time in the morning, traffic is light. I would recommend leaving at 4.30am to get to Sanford around 6.00am (including returning rental car).

I have done the early departure at 4am a few times and to be honest I prefer it over having to pack up early at one place and move to another and still get up early the next morning (albeit not as early). By moving to a hotel on the Thursday, you will, effectively loose that day of your vacation as you will probably have to leave at 10 or 11am depending on your check out time.

Hope that helps.
