I can get cheaper flights if we fly into this airport instead of Orlando International. Has anyone flown into this airport and if so how do you get to Disney since you can't get ME? And how much does it cost?

You can rent a car from Alamo or National for about $30 a day. You can get a rental to get you from Sanford and drop it off at the Swan or Dolphin. You can reserve one to get you back to the airport also. On the way from the airport to the resort, you have the car to pick up any snacks or sodas you want.
You can also get a shuttle which will probably cost more for one person than the car.
It is under an hour drive and you will need about $6.00 for tolls. The Greenway 417 is direct.

Ok I think I might just pay the little bit extra and fly into MCO lol. It's about $100 more so it will just even out but is much easier and quicker.

I live about 10 min. from that airport and, yeah, you're better off going into MCO if you can. Esp. if you're staying on-property and can then take advantage of Disney's Magical Express (although having to be ready at least 3hrs before a flight can be a pain, esp. if it's an early morning flight but, what can ya do? :) )

It's a good 45-60min. drive from the Sanford airport to Disney property once you get thru the traffic lights on Lake Mary blvd and finally get to I-4. Or maybe save a few minutes but fork over about $8 in tolls and take the 417 down.

We flew into Sanford a couple of times before ME was offered. We used an airport shuttle service that cost around $100. I much prefer flying into MCO and with ME it's no more expensive and we get to our resort faster.

We used to fly into Sanford all the time and rent a town car, then DH decided to start taking Mears. I miss flying into Sanford (for us a direct flight, instead of transferring to another plane) and I'm not crazy about Mears.

Just curious...what about Mears do you not like?

For me too slow with all the other stops before us. I feel the town car is much quicker, plus no other stops.

We fly into Sanford each year. We use Happy Limo and they get us to WDW in about 30 minutes. When you get your flight for $100 round trip (allegiant air), you can't resist!!!

I have always wondered what it would be like to go from Sanford to Disney. Not for an airplane but for Amtrak. What better way to take a kid from NYC to WDW than on a train! Sparring the fact that since the demolition New York Penn is the least magical place in the country.

Well, Mears does a luxury van (only your party on-board) plus the limos.

They must have been doing 100mph down I-4! :)

I think it is about 50 miles from Sanford Airport to center of WDW. 30 minutes would be quite a trip for that distance considering a few lights.

You should also consider the "value" of flying direct, with no connections. We have flown into Sanford twice and have no complaints. After RUNNING through JFK 2 weeks ago, we will definitely look hard at Allegiant next time. (We always rent a car anyway.)

Sanford most likely will cost more in the long run. We have flown there twice. The airport that flies there is about 10 minutes from my house, while iof we fly into MCO direct we have to go about an hour to the airport. My DH prefers just going out of the local one and WANTS to rent a car, even though we rarely use it. I really liked it the year we flew into MCO, using ME, etc. But DH felt like he was being control or something. The price going into MCO for us was actually cheaper, but we got a great deal that year. The years we flew to Sanford the flights were really close in price and then to rent the car put it over.
Allegiant isn't a bargan like you think either. It is 30 round trip per bag. It is like 13-15 dollars per person per flight to pick a seat (which we do to ensure we are all together with DD.) and another $5 for priority boarding, which we don't do, but they act like you should.

We fly into Sanford every time from the UK on charter flights.

Have used MCO in the past but much prefer Sanford.

You get through Customs and Immigration and baggage Reclaim much much quicker at Sanford and it's a really easy drive drive down the 417 costing $6.00 only in Tolls.

I'm going to move this over to our transportation board in case the folks over there have additional input.

Just booked our airfare to Orlando and I decided to go with Allegiant into Sanford!! It was $79/pp One way and is a direct flight so I couldn't resist especially when the airfare into Orlando International is $224/pp One way so wit taxes and fees and baggage fees we saved about $250 for the 2 of us :cool1::banana::cool1:
We are going to rent a car from Alamo which is $30+ taxes for the day. But now we won't have to book a hotel for night before we leave and we won't need to take a taxi to the outlets when we get in Disney which makes up for the car rental. And now I can do my black Friday shopping at Prime which is the outlet mall I prefer instead of Premium and can go to Kohls!!! :yay::woohoo::dance3:

Do not use Sanford Transportation to get between the airport and Disney.

They have complaints against them for not showing up on time to take you back to the airport.

I have flown into Sanford many times and I really like it. It is a much smaller airport-so no long security lines.

The biggest drawback is no ME. If you are going to rent a car anyway-no big deal. But if you don't need a car, you have the extra expense of a rental or car service.

We always just rent a car. It is nice to have, especially now since bus service seems to be getting slower and slower. Remember parking is free if you are staying onsite. You can also use the car to buy snacks and drinks and even save some money by eating offsite.

We have an airport close by that has a non-stop to Sanford. On our last trip we paid $29 down and $89 back. Can't beat that. And airport parking is free. Flying into Sanford can save you alot of money even if you have to rent a car.
