DISNEY APRIL 20 - 30, 2002

TRIP REPORT

DAY 1 ~ SATURDAY, APRIL 20

DH and I woke up 6am to prepare for 10:15am Air Canada flight AC912 Toronto to Orlando. Woke the kids dd (8) ds (2) at 6:30am. Airport limo arrived at 7:35am ~ way too early as usual. Long lines at airport. There was only the self-check-in kiosk at Air Canada, so we checked ourselves in - it wasn't too much problem but I was born in Quebec and it would not take my birth certificate number at first, I needed help. A fella came along and told me that I needed to type "Q" in with my birth cert. #. Good thing the came along! Security was a breeze. As we droned along with the other folks waiting for security, the flight clew whisked past us. The security guard who let them in, waved us thru too! We got to the head of the line ~ LOL! By 8:30am, we were sitting waiting for the 10:15am flight. Everything went great on the plane. Air Canada was wonderful to fly with ~ on time there and back! HIGHLY RECOMMEND PREBOOKING YOUR SEATS! We did and it was GREAT! So many folks had to split up their families! We landed at 12:40pm, got our Dollar car rental (mini-van, thank you mousesavers! $199 a week!). By 1:40pm we were on the road to Goodings. Picked up groceries around 2pm and arrived at CSR by 2:40pm. I got the room we requested Cabanas 8A (ROOM 8157) We asked for a lower level corner room near the Dig Site but not directly facing it for noise. The room was perfectly quiet. We swam at the Dig Site then ate at Pepper Market ~ ds was in bed asleep at 7pm! The rest of us fell asleep about 11pm.

BIG SURPRISE FOR THE KIDS: I brought a BIG yellow gift bag and hid it in my luggage. When we went out to dinner the first night, I went back to the room and placed a gift for each kid in the yellow gift bag. DS's gift was wrapped in blue with ribbon and DD's in pink with ribbon and Disney name tags addressed to each kid. When we got back to the room after dinner the kids were surprised with gifts from MICKEY! Each day when we returned from the parks, there was a gift for each kid! They were thrilled!

CSR FIRST IMPRESSIONS: CSR was what I expected. It was nice enough, but I prefer CBR. DD preferred CBR too, DH didn't have a preferance. I liked CSR well enough and happy that we tried it (the price was right ~ again THANKS mousesavers $94 a night) but it didn't do the magic that CBR did last year. The Dig Site pool was GREAT! That was the best part! The quiet pools were nice too! The kiddie pool didn't have the BIG fish that I saw in past pictures. That confused ds, since I kept telling him about the fish and showing him pictures. I didn't like the Pepper Market very much. The food was okay and the folks were friendly enough, but I liked CBR better. I found El Centro to be cold while OPR was friendly and lively! Now I think if I tried CSR first, before CBR, I might be writing a different review. CBR was our first Disney resort last year and it was soooo magical that it really was a hard act to follow. I was terribly disappointed with the housekeeping staff. The TV cabinet had a knob missing off the door which was dangerous for ds (2), sharp! The hot water faucet kept falling off. They fixed it as soon as I reported it, but I thought that type of thing should have been fixed before we got the room. Both things were very obvious. The housekeepers did put the kids toys in the window which was a nice little treat, but two days when I forgot to leave out tips envelopes, the toys were just thrown on the floor. I saw one housekeeper really make a fuss about another families room, when he saw that I saw him, he rushed off. The Character Caravan was okay, but extremely disorganized! The carpets were dull and ugly and old. But the bedding was pretty and bright. All in all, I would give CSR 6.5 out of 10, where I would give CBR 8.5 out of 10 ~ that just my opinion. I liked it just fine ~ but I am comparing it to a GREAT stay at CBR last year. We are looking at a combo moderate/deluxe resort next trip! Since we did the DISNEY COMMANDO thing again this year and didn't spend lots of time at CSR, the resort suited us just fine. If given a choice of repeats CSR or CBR, I would pick CBR in a shot! Loved CBR, liked CSR. Now for the REALLY important part ~ DISNEY!!!!!!! DAY 2 to follow!

Sounds like you're off to a great start!:) It's nice to hear that Air Canada's service was really good as we've been hearing a lot of "off" reports.

Yours little "Disney" touch with the children's gifts was such a great idea and I bet they were all smiles when they came home and saw what Mickey had left them!;)

Sorry you're resort wasn't up to par from last years but hey that's what vacations are about.....trying out new places!:D

Sandra.......I can hear your wheels already starting to plan your next trip! LOL:p

Nice report and I'm looking forward to reading Day 2!

Thanks.....Cindy~

Hi Sandra C!

Been watching for your return! Can't wait to read all the reports and get all your new found wisdom.

Jordan's mom AKA - The other Sandra C

Sandra, funny how "first" Disney resorts make a lasting impression. We stayed at CSR last summer and while it was okay, it didn't compare with my memories of our "first love" Dixie Landings, now POR. DH and I did enjoy going down to the little coffee counter for a treat in the evenings and then going for a walk around the lake. We stayed in a Casitas too and I thought our room was pleasant. I used to enjoy the walk past the fountains to El Centro. It's a pretty resort, but DXL had already won my heart as far as the moderates go.

If you do stay at AKL, I'm sure you will love it. It was like being in another world, the 3 days we stayed there.

I'm looking forward to Day 2. Thanks for posting this, Sandra! (Wow, you're quick, I still haven't written my March Break report yet!) :)

The first resort we ever stayed in was All Star Sports and to this day it is still my absolute favourite I think it all has to do with it being the frst on site trip to WDW and it all just seems so magical. I didn't like Dixie at all and we just fell in love with Coronado on our Honeymoon in 98 but I still love All Star Sports best even better than Wilderness Lodge and Boardwalk which we stayed at last year. We are now DVC members but I would stay at ASSp ever time if I could just how much I love it there. Just because it was my first experiance at staying on site at WDW and it has been one lastin loving memory of the place

I have my eye on these $134 rates at Contemp. Resort. It's sooooo close to MK!

I think my family would love to stay at CBR again, but I like trying different places. I didn't totally dislike CSR. It was lovely and yes Julie, I liked walking around the lake too! Actually, the longer we stayed the better I liked it, but my heart is still with my "first" at the CBR. I loved the Broadwalk, YC and BC, but I think my family didn't love it.

Still lots of time to plan the 2005 trip, but right now I think a mid July (yes, I know it's hot, but I'm thinking about dd's school ~ she'll be 11 years old for next trip) with AP's and go again early July the next year. Two trips using AP's. I'll keep my eye on the AP rates. I think we'll do 3 nights at a moderate and 4-5 nights at Contemp. Resort. Still planning!

We liked the Poly very much too! We had char. meal one morning! Very nice. Only drive thru PO, but it looked lovely. I wish we went there for dinner. I thought AKL was way cool! And dd loved WL! S

Ewww, now you've got me worried about CSR. We're only planning 3 nights in October b/4 we move to AKL and if I can get a good code rate it will be all 8 nights at AKL.....My DGD(7) really likes the looks of PO French Quarters pool. Maybe I should switch to there?

Can't wait to read your other reports! Thanks for taking the time!

jennymouse! Stay and enjoy the CSR! The Dig Site was great! I would recommend CSR to anyone. We ended up with only adequate housekeeping staff, but if the our mousekeepers were like our CBR mousekeepers, I'd bet ya I would have changed my tune. The CSR is a nice place ~ but my own heart is comparing it to a FAB stay at CBR last year. If CSR was our only Disney resort, I'd likely rave about it! I have young kids so El Centro didn't do it for us. If your kids are older, it would be great! GO AND ENJOY! S

SAndra, your trip got off to a great start.Imagine something nice being said about Air Canada,LOL.I know how you feel about the memories of your first resort. My kids are begging to stay at the All-Star Sports when we go again(they will be 15 and almost 13)They just enjoyed that place so much.
Looking forward to your next report

Hey Sandra C,
It's the other Sandra C here. We are too planning to stay at the comtemp. our next trip in Nov-Dec. 2003. We should have that little girl by then and think it would be so much easier. We will be watching those rates with you. Wanted to make sure you remembered that the first week of July, in the US, is independence day week. Prices, crowds and heat are all at their peak!Taking our DS (also 3rd grade) out much longer is also getting to be a concern to us. We plan to do it one more time on this next trip, he will be 5th grade, but might not after that. I am not sure what we will do. We are so spoiled by off season. We might try the first week the kids are out of school, Late May here in our town. I have done The first week in July when I was younger, had more energy and no kids. Heat is very different from April.Might be a real problem if you DS can not handle the heat well.Just something to think about. Hope the post trip let downs don't get ya!!Start planning again.

Thanks SandraC, for a great start:D
Looking forward to your next report;)

Great start to your reports! :)

Hey SandraC the first! (AKA Jordan's Mom)! I am still weighing the April vs. July thing. July 15, 2005 is the date I was thinking about with an AP, then again July 8, 2006 to use the AP last time. It avoid's July 4th and even July 1st which is Canada Day and lots of Canucks head to Florida. When I think about how much we love late April, I am so tempted to just chuck the July idea and go April. The last two years we have gone during "Education Week" at school. It's a fun week but no new material is covered, so a good time to take the kids out of school. The bad thing is, dd was interested in the things at school so I promised no April trip next year during Ed. week. Still thinking about it! THANKS ALL FOR YOUR COMMENTS! WE ARE A FAMILY HERE ~ I HOPE YOU KNOW THAT! Sandra
