ADR day is in 3 weeks so I'm trying to finalize things. Thinking of heading to Sanaa on our AK day for a late-ish lunch. Will it please everyone? Somewhat picky dh and 3 somewhat picky dd's, I will eat anything :) thanks!

We have never had a meal at Sanaa but I have always wanted to.

My family is also very picky.

Are you on a dining plan?

We are using our TIW card this year. I have always wanted to eat at La Hacienda de San Angel. The menu doesn't appeal to DD or DH but DS will eat with me. So I came up with the idea to feed DH & DD before we go and they like chips, salsa, & cheese dip in the beginning & get desserts only for them not a meal.

If I want to go to Sanaa I will have to do the same thing. I plan to let them try our meals to see if they like it. I know that all sounds complicated and probably a bit crazy. But a happy family on vacation for us equals a happy vacation.

Just a suggestion!

Good Luck!

My 4 year old DS and almost 3 year old DD loved it when we ate there. I can't remember what they got for their meals but they devoured the bread service and had no complaints with whatever their meals were. It didn't hurt that we were dining about twenty feet from a zebra! The whole experience was fantastic. It is our one must do repeat ADR when we go in August.

Try to get a window table if you go. It is the only restaurant on property where you can view the animals and has good food. I would go and give it a try with your family. I would get the bread service. They do have a fish or a turkey club sandwich option for your husband, and fish or chicken breast option for your kids.

Our Ratings of Sanaa: (rev 10/9/12)
. . . food price value: B
. . . food quality: B
. . . food quantity per serving: B
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: C
. . . seating comfort: C
. . . eatery atmosphere: B
. . . eatery convenience: C
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff attentiveness: A
. . . character interaction: B (views of animals on savannah)

NOTE1: Sanaa has good regional African food. Americanized, but
definitely more adventurous than other eateries. The menu is
shorter than other table service eateries, the wine list average,
but the quality of the food and presentation are high. An added
benefit is viewing animals on the Savannah during the meal (for
daylight hours). There's eight savannah window tables and six
more with good views. For lunch, try the Lamb Kefta open face
sandwich; for dinner, try the beef and lamb. Don't miss out on
the Banana Kulfi Sundae. Get the salad sampler with three of the
salads that can feed two people. Be aware that items labeled as
"Durban" are highly spiced, and best washed down with cold milk!
It is out-of-the-way, but worth the drive. This is only one of the
five sit-down eateries we patronize at WDW. In our opinion,
and other reviewers, Sanaa is better than Jiko or Boma.

NOTE2: We prefer the lunch over the dinner.
. . . the fare is a little lighter
. . . the price is better
. . . the appys and salads are the same
. . . the lower quantity of people eating
. . . the ability to see animals on the savannah

We went to Sanaa a couple of years ago and LOVED it! Only thing that ruined it was our 2 year old who was just not in the mood for sitting for dinner that night :rolleyes2 which was a shame coz he was great every other night! We will definitely head back this year and make sure he's had a big old sleep that afternoon and has a tub of lego with him! ;)

Just curious RS, is it still worth a trip after dark for dinner? I've been trying to work in a lunch visit here but it's just not going to work and neither will an early dinner (while still daylight), but I want to try it. We were big fans of JIKO at one time (but they took my favorite salad and some other items we enjoyed off the menu) and Boma is just ok for us so just wondering if it's worth the visit without being able to see the animals too?

RS you need your own board on here.;)

I am not RS, nor do I play him on TV. ;) But we have always enjoyed all of our meals, whether they are lunch or dinner. But we only go for the food. For us, being able to see animals from the window is a side benefit. It's like an amuse bouche, not an entree, KWIM?

We have only dined there after dark, and will do so again on our upcoming trip. The food is worth it to us.

DS is much more adventurous nowadays, but when we first ate there he was MORE than happy with the kid's meal flatbread cheese pizza. It made him VERY happy. As did the bread service.

Wow, you mean RS is a tv star now??:goodvibes... I figured it's kind of an extra perk to see the animals, so this would be a good opportunity to check out the eatery without the perks, right? ...if we enjoy the food, it will be on our LUNCH "to do" list next visit and then we could even do an earlier dinner especially since it will be DLS time then. Thanks for the feedback.;)

...and Bumbershoot, thanks for posting about your ds liking the flatbread pizza, my dd is picky as well (at 14!) so good to know there's kids flatbread cheese pizza.

The DIS podcast reviewed Sanaa last week. Suggest you listen to their review as they made some points worth knowing when making a decision whether to dine there.

1) Absolpositively.
2) The food and service are excellent at both lunch and dinner.
3) We thought lunch was better FOR US, due to smaller portions and animals.
4) But, we do eat there for dinner at least once per month after work.
