San Juan riots impact cruise itineraries

I'd be so disappointed if they replaced our San Juan with St. Thomas, Tortola, or CC! Of course, since we're disembarking in San Juan, it would present logistical problems not just not liking the replacement port. Still have many months to go though so only hoping it's resolved quickly for the people of PR.

Are you on the Galveston to San Juan cruise in mid-January? I agree that it would be a bit of an issue if the "end port" ends up being different. I am booked on one of the Southern Caribbean cruises in/out of San Juan in January and I am also hopeful that all will be "resolved" by then. Actually added an extra day this year to enjoy the city as it was pretty much in/out for us last year out of San Juan

No, November NYC - San Juan.

Was there today.
Apart from some graffiti that they were painting over and a few boarded up windows, it was no different to any other time. No trouble, no protests, didn't feel unsafe at all.
If it wasnt for all the reports on it, you wouldn't really know anything had happened.

Thank you for posting this.
Did you go there with a cruise line (if so, which one) or you flew there?

Disney Cruise Line just emailed guests of the 7/27 Fantasy Cruise and the stop at San Juan has been cancelled and rescheduled for St Thomas/US Virgin Islands.....not really surprising

Oh, I'd be crying ST T over San Juan!! Such a shame since (this morning) it sounded as if the Gov was stepping down and this might be resolved. Another cruiser posted photos of OSJ from yesterday and they didn't look anything like what's been shown on the news so not sure what's going on...

Yeah. I may be crying, or not. I dunno. I'm really upset, is the only thing I'm sure of.
This is a poor decision by DCL imo... they could have waited a few more days, the SJ stop is not until almost 2 weeks.
I know DCL dgad about their most loyal customers, but this is a really poor decision. I booked this cruise almost solely because of the San Juan stop.:mad::mad::mad:
Good thing about this is that I will finally start looking at other cruise lines. I kept refusing but its time.. My loyalty to DCL is done.
Anyway, I'll head over to the bar downstairs, get a few glasses of wine and drown my sorrows in the hotel's nice hot tub (I know)

Sorry dude. To be fair, I posted that early this AM before we got our email

Just got off the phone with DCL. The ashore time of 7AM & aboard time of 3:30 is correct (odd, but correct). Also, any refund will go to the last card used (be it gift card, debit card or credit card). I asked, because in the past, I've had the refund credited to the next cruise I'm paying down and wanted to do the same here. Couldn't quite make out her explanation (dratted cell phones), but this refund has to come back to my card for 'reasons'.

ETA: Looks like we'll be the only ship in port, ST Thomas

Now that the governor has resigned, hopefully they can reverse the changes in itineraries as there is no reason to skip Puerto Rico!

I doubt they switch back as nice as that would be. It seems like they waited as long as they could to make a decision before everyone got on the ship so they could notify and make changes. It was certainly the safer of the two choices they had, and given that so many prefer Disney because they know they will keep them safe it was probably the right move for them. Even though the governor has stepped down, there is a hole where he was, and who knows who will fill that hole. His resignation doesn't take effect until August 2nd (crazy) and there could be more unrest until a new governor is seated.

Unfortunately for all (those in the PR and those of us on the 11 night) I think you may be right. *sigh*

It's interesting that Disney cancelled the San Juan stop. I just returned from the China ABD. The protests in Hong Kong were ramping up weeks before our trip date and Disney did not alter our itinerary. The day our adventure started the protests had moved to our area of Hong Kong, right in front and the side of the Peninsula Hotel HK where we stayed. It was surreal to look out of the windows of our room and see the streets jam packed with people chanting. A total peaceful protest, but it makes me wonder what goes into the whole decision making process. The protests in San Juan were peaceful as well.
