Starting to plan for next January(although I am sure I will book an additional cruise before then). Looking for hotel options for San Juan. Clean, close to port, doesn't have to be fancy... safe area, traveling with my teens with hubby. What port or area of town too? Thanks

Just one night or more?

I like staying in Old San Juan - lots of history, good food and sites to see - all in walking distance. OSJ is a very short taxi ride to the Pan American Port.

We just stayed at CasaBlanca in OSJ. Had a great room(s) for us (queen) and the adult kids (two twin beds). Two bedrooms with shared bathroom in between. We very well might be staying there again next January as well. Floors are NOT carpeted - tile / stone. We did wear our flip flops in the room - there did seem to be stuff on the floor. NO TV, but they have a tablet in the room with Netflix and other entertainment options. Down in the lobby they were showing ... wait for it ... Casablanca :teeth:

Few years ago we stayed at the Sheraton, but reviews have been giving it only 2 stars - so it must be going somewhat downhill

Thinking 2, we are doing the 1/28/18, you??

We stayed at Caribe Hilton. It was fine. But Hotel el Convento calls our name for our next time in SJ

It's all compact so if you stay near the airport or the cruise pier you can still quickly get into old San Juan.

nope, earlier, probably the week before yours. Tax Season :crazy2::scared1::eek: starts during your cruise

If you've never been to Puerto Rico before ... Consider doing a Food Walking Tour of OSJ. We did this on our first trip there a few years ago. We used Flavors of Old San Juan which gave us an overview of OSJ and we got to eat and drink along the way. I LOVE the food in Puerto Rico!!

We just stayed 2 nights in Isla Verde in a condo rented through home away. It was a short cab/uber ride from OSJ and right by the airport. The view of the ocean from our balcony was gorgeous, and my kids loved the beach.

Everything is near by so what type of accommodations & activities are you looking to for?

If you want to spend the day(s) at the beach or at a really nice pool, while still having great shops and restaurants walking distance, Condado is your best bet. (the Marriott in Condado is great.)

If you want to REALLY enjoy the sights of Old San Juan and feel a part of it, and proximity to the beach or a nice pool is not high priority, then OSJ is best. (The Sheraton is the only OSJ hotel with an actual pool, otherwise there are a few really nice boutique style hotels.)

We've stayed in OSJ, at El Cervantes, for part of our honeymoon. It was gorgeous & romantic. It was just behind the Sheraton. https://www.cervantespr.com

We're going on the 4/30/17 Southern Caribbean on DCL, but this time we'll be traveling with our 2 year old & 1 year old. Therefore, we wanted space, a kitchen, and all the amenities of a hotel. We found a ton of great condos offering all of those things on Airbnb & Vrbo. We decided to splurge & go with this awesome condo, however, there are many options that are even more affordable compared to hotels. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/15886165

We stayed at the Marriott Stellaris in San Juan, in the Condado beach area. It's about 10 minutes to Old San Juan via taxi where the ships are. Loved the hotel! Right on the beach, they provide chairs and umbrellas, Nice pool with slide, swim up pool bar, free go pro rentals and bike rentals, along with bottled water. Lots of dining right near the hotel. We had a great time there last Easter.

The Hyatt house and Hyatt Place are right near the pan American port and are very nice with a pool. They have a shuttle to old san juan and condado beach but not back (you needed to use a cab or Uber to return). There are shuttles all around old san juan which work well.
