Can anyone recommend a good hotel in this area? Prefer a suite, but we can do 2 rooms. We have never been there, so the focus is Alcatraz and GGB. Thank you!

I can’t recommend a hotel but wanted to remind you to bring a jacket or sweatshirt to Alcatraz . Even if it’s 90 degrees on the mainland it feels like 30 degrees on Alcatraz island ! 🥶

I'm a solo female traveler and I stayed in this area a few years ago. I stayed at the Travelodge Motel at Columbus and Bay Street, which is probably not what you are looking for, but across the street from the Travelodge is San Francisco Marriott.

The next street up, North Point Street, there is a Holiday Inn Express, a Hyatt Centic and then the next street up again , Beach Street there is a Courtyard By Marriott.

Take a look at the these hotels on the map, this area is where I would recommend, as its all walking distance to Pier 33 for Alcatraz and the main Fishermans Warf shopping and restaurant area.

I walked from Travelodge along Bay Street to Pier 33 which is Alacatraz Landing.

I would recommend getting your tickets for Alcatraz ASAP, as they sell out.

The Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf is very nice and has some huge rooms if you need that.

I don't know if they still run the night tour of Alcatraz, but if so, I highly recommend that one. It was limited to a smaller group and with it being dark, the atmosphere took on a completely different feel.

That's the one we are going to do! Going to book tickets as soon as they are available!

The hotel I stayed in was not in Fisherman's Wharf but it was a short bus ride, it was the Coventry Inn. I think the parking was free or cheap, and the rooms were nice and clean.

Alcatraz is very cool (literally and figuratively) and I agree with other to get your tickets early.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on North Point Street at Fisherman's Wharf. It was nice and clean. Free breakfast every morning. Walking distance to Alcatraz ferry and the pier. Very close to everything. We purchased tickets for Alcatraz about 60 days before we arrived to San Francisco.

I stayed there a couple weeks ago at the Marriott and it was great. They charge a $20. daily resort fee, but they give you back $20 gift certificates for their onsite restaurant/bar. They did have a full breakfast buffet in the mornings and it was an easy walk to many places.

The Argonaut. Close to Aquatic Park, Ghirardelli Square, Fisherman's Warf. Not the cheapest but it is really nice and walking distance to the Cable Car turn around too.
