We will be visiting the San Diego zoo in early December. I have read that it is worth taking the bus around the zoo first, but other than that, I don't have a touring plan. I'm sure we won't have any problem getting there before it opens, if that matters. Any suggestions? Thanks - Pam

We knew we really wanted to do the pandas, so we got there at opening and walked to that area first. It was great because there were only a few people in there and we could take our time. After that we did the bus tour and got a good overview of most of the zoo. (I personally like sitting on the upper deck for better views) Then we took the skyride up to the hippo area up on the hill and worked our way back down, walking. We did the reptile house next and then went back to some favorite animals -- koalas, giraffes, elephants, etc. -- and one of the shows. We used some of the point-to-point buses for this part.

We thought about seeing the pandas again in the afternoon but when we went back about 1 pm. the line was Disney-sized ... and no FastPass:rolleyes:) The pandas are really the only animal you have to "line up" to see and where they sort of walk you through the exhibit. So I'd think about doing that first as long as you don't mind a little backtracking.

Hello!

My family and I had an October 2010 trip to San Diego.

We got in the morning and went through the Reptile house. Then we took the Skyride up to the Polar Bears. We walked down the hill to see the Panda bears and Hippos. Then we rode on the bus so we could get an overview of the Zoo.

It really depends on what is your favorite animals. Our family favorites animals are: Polar bear, Panda, and Koalas. We also went through the Bird Aviary.
