San Antonio Roll Call and Medals Sneak Peak

I don't think I have a race packet... I'll have to look around the house to see if it has been misplaced. How long ago did some of you get them?

I think they came a couple of weeks ago. I'm pretty sure you can reprint the info from the race website.

It turns out my wife had put my packet envelope with today's 25K material, so I do have it after all.

Weather update:

I'm gettign excited!

Maybe I just missed it, but is there a time and place set for a Saturday dinner meet?

Maybe I just missed it, but is there a time and place set for a Saturday dinner meet?

We are meeting Saturday at 4:30 at Paesano's on the River Walk. If you don't have plans Friday night some of us are going to see Spirit of the Marathon - get more info via the link on the official race website.

I can't wait to see everyone!

Hey, SA marathon peeps!

I am sorry to say that I now will not be down there to cheer, though I will be there in spirit!
I travel all day Saturday, and am having shoulder surgery on Monday :scared1: so I will need most (if not all) of Sunday to prepare myself and my home for living with one useful arm (not even my dominant arm) for the next several weeks.

Please post race reports!
I'll tell my sis to watch out for the people in WISH shirts and cheer extra loud!
:cheer2:

My memory isn't always the best but I seem to be recalling a certain bunch of crazy people should be heading to San Antonio this weekend!!!!!!

Have safe trips, a wonderful time and may you all hit PR's this weekend!!! Have the bestest of times!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: I'll be thinking of you all this weekend!!! :grouphug:

We did indeed have a good time!
I met some friends I had never met in person before. Unfortunately, I was not able to make the dinner due to another group I had to meet with, but I think I met everyone there before and during the race.
Maybe next time, I'll have more time to spare.
(Did I really just mention "next time"??)

Jim and I just got home - and I don't have time to post a report, other than to say it was AWESOME!!

Welcome home to our San Antonio racers!!!! Congrats everyone!!!! Now where are the photos of all the bling!?!?!?!?! cuz I KNOW you all have it :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Show us the bling Team! :jumping1:

San Antonio!!

Day One: Jim and I left Chicago Friday morning and arrived in sunny San Antonio about 11AM. We got our luggage, grabbed a taxi, and headed to our hotel to check-in and meet up with Anne and Robert.:thumbsup2 We stayed at the historic Crockett hotel right across from the Alamo, and it was pretty neat.

The four of us headed out to grab some lunch and walk to the expo (about a 1.5 mile walk). The weather was beautiful, the company was great and soon we were at the Alamodome. The expo was very well-laid out. We walked in, and went right up to get our packets, then on to pick up our race shirts and goody bags(no backtracking like at the DL expo). The race merchandise area was next and the cashier area was extremely organized. Then it was on to the vendor area and Jim scored his share of freebies. On the walk back to the hotel we stopped at the River Walk and did a boat tour. It was beautiful!

Later in the evening John and Karen walked to our hotel and we all piled into a cab to go see Spirit of the Marathon. I didn't realize that John Bingham, Coach Jenny, and Chicago were an important part of the movie, so that was really cool. Soon day one of our adventure was over and it was time to turn in.

San Antonio!

Day Two: Karen and John headed to the expo first thing and then met us at the Alamo for a tour. I'm so glad that we took the time to visit. It's one of those places you hear about, and to actually be able to walk the grounds was really cool.

Then we decided to do a trolley tour, saving a couple bucks each thanks to Karen's headsup coupon clipping from a hotel magazine. Unfortunately the tour wasn't as anywhere as neat as the tour I did with Anne and Robert in Philly in Sept. The tour guide was more interested in pointing out hotels than historic information.:confused3 We did get off at the Market Place and explored for a little bit before heading to the River Walk for our WISH meet supper. Here we are full of pasta!

Then it was time to head back to the hotel for hopefully a good night's sleep before our big day.

San Antonio!

Race Day: It was in the 30's when we headed out the door to catch the shuttle bus to the race start. I had brought gloves, but there were ones in the goody bag, they came in handy!! Jim and I had throw-away shirts, and Anne and Robert used disposable clear rain ponchos to help keep warm. The bus drop-off point seemed like it was a long way from the race start! We had just gotten into our corral when we spotted some WISHers:

San Antonio had a 2 minute delay between each corral starting, we ended up waiting 52 minutes before we started. Ouch! I know that it was done that way to avoid congestion, but it was hard walking a few feet, standing for two minutes, walking a few more feet, standing a couple more minutes. Finally it was time to start!! Soon someone going by stopped to chat about WISH. At first I thought she was confusing us with Make a WISH, but it turned out she was DisneyDudette. Cool! Jim and I walked together for awhile, then he pulled ahead and Anne and I hung together.

In Philly Anne and I walked almost the entire course with a woman from Chicago. At about mile 5 we heard someone calling our names....it was Mary Kay from the Philly race! How cool was that?!? Out of 30,000 racers we ran (or in our case walked) into each other.

Here is a picture of one of the houses we passed on the course:

There was a lot to see on the course, lots of crowd support most of the way, and 15 bands for the half-marathoners. Unfortunately the race ended with a bit of an uphill - that was mean and cruel!!

But, I guess the race organizers tried to make up for it with the most amazing collection of goodies at the race end. Anne has a complete list, but in addition to our fabulous medal there were towels, water, power drinks, bananas, bagels, oranges, apples, bags of pretzels, crackers, multiple kinds of potato chips, trail mix, some type of gummy candy, strawberry smoothies, fruit bars, and free beer. Wow!!

We made our way to the W area to meet up with our fellow WISHers, and after Bill finished the full we walked back to our hotel to clean up and rest a little before heading out to meet up for a great Mexican dinner. We great time celebrating but soon it was time to head back and get organized for heading home in the morning.

Day Four: Heading home. We didn't know how much time to allow to get to the airport and through security on a Monday morning, and as it turned out we spent a total of about 30 minutes doing it all - so we were at the airport nearly 3 hrs before our flight. Luckily we spotted Susie and Bill waiting for their flights and we had a great time chatting away until it was time to head home.

So - it was an amazing, wonderful few days!

Pat - thanks for the report! Sounds like you all had a great time!

Terri

I had a friend of mine go (without TELLING me in advance) and he finished 25th overall!!
