We went to the San Angel, the first week of October last year and it was awful. I seen recent reviews that say it has improved. When did it improve ? Has anyone been lately and what did you think ? Thanks !

We ate there last year and really enjoyed it. We had eaten there several times before and just thought it was so-so. We were really surprised on how much we enjoyed it.

We ate there last July and loved it! You just can't go in expecting the kind of 'Mexican' food we're used to in the states, i.e. tacos, burritos, fajitas, etc.

Our last visit was in 2007 and we have loved it every time. San Angel gets mixed reviews. I tend to think its mostly because so many are used to Americanized Mexican food such as TexMex etc. San Angel isn't the place to go for the common chimichangas, burritos, tacos etc. To me, what they do offer is excellent if you like authentic Mexican.

San Angel was refurbished I believe in early 2007.

As long as they continue to serve those out-of-the-bag Tostitos chips and out-of-the-jar salsa, we'll never go back. Service has always been horrible, and the ingredients they use to prepare the food are not all that fresh. Food will not get any better until Disney changes the Company dishing up the slop.

I've actually heard that they do serve fresh chips and salsa made in-house now. I haven't been back recently to confirm, however.

we ate there last September and had excellent service and very good food - we really enjoyed the whole experience. The chips may or may not have been out of a bag (they weren't tostios or doritos, can tell you that ) but we thought the salsa tasted fresh & original, certainly not Pace or the like.

If you're expecting typical American tex-mex like fast food tacos, burritos, etc.you will be disappointed...nothing like that on the menu. It's all high-end entrees. We were told it was the types of dishes you would expect to get at a nice family restaurant in Mexico, not fast food sandwich equivalents.

Opinions on the San Angel seem to be proverbially divided. I think a lot of this may have to do with the background of the diner. If they are from areas in the Southwest (or have significant experience dining there) their expectations -- in terms of what "authentic Mexican" means -- are perhaps different (not necessarily higher, just different)) than those who are more used to Mexican food that has been "adapted" to suit further flung regions.

I went there last week and I like San Angel, but I always did.

There are many kinds of authentic Mexican food...just like there are many kinds of authentic American or Italian food. Make a taco or a meatloaf in a way someone doesn't usually have it and they'll say it sucks. It's personal preference.

But a lot of people seem to not like San Angel; no doubt about that.

We're going to try San Angel in Sept.--just got my ADRs this morning.
I don't care for the typical TEX-Mex or American Mexican (to sloppy)
so hoping we will enjoy the Authentic. I'm looking forward to the neat
atmosphere and to remember back to our honeymoon:hug: in Acapulco,Mexico
(we are celibrating our 25th). We really enjoyed our food on our honeymoon.

We ate there in January and enjoyed it, chips and salsa seemed fresh not bagged. The entrees were good, and DH said his steak was almost as good as Le Cellier. Very enjoyable and relaxing meal.
