Hi all

Do you have to make reservations to get in at all to this Mexican restaurant for dinner? In which case is it too late since we'll be there at the very end of June?

I'd hoped to go to the Cantina version, but saw its down for refurb. San Angel Inn is very expensive (since we'd be there for dinner); are they awkward with you if you just want an appetizer and perhaps a dessert?

Thanks :goodvibes:

This is better suited to the Restaurants board (where I'm sure it will get moved).

Yes, if you want to get into San Angel - over the summer especially - you will need a reservation or there will be a 99% chance you won't get a table. It is not a big restaurant.

You can order whatever you want, but I'm sure they'd prefer you order something more than an app and dessert. :)

^^^Ditto. We usually do lunch because it's less crowded and we have always walked in, but for dinner in the summer...heck yeah get a ressie. I wouldn't give up. There are always cancellations.

Appetizer and dessert are just fine. Cost wise, those two could be equal to, or maybe even more than a lower priced entree. Enjoy, it is a good restaurant.

Skip the San Angel. One of the worst restaurants in Epcot. I love the atmosphere, despise the food.

I'm sure others will disagree.

There is still a QS dining place in Mexico. It's only temporary but has better food than the TS place.

We've gone there for dinner on our last three trips. We always have ADRs. Each time as we waited the 5-10 minutes for our table, we have watched them turn walk-up after walk-up away. Our last trip we weren't going to eat there, and then we changed our minds about 2 weeks before the trip, I tried multiple times a day to get an ADR. I finally got one while we were at WDW the night before we wanted to eat there. I'd just start getting on line everyday now to see if one pops up for the night you want.

No, I agree!! The food is horrible! It was really good years ago. I am not sure what happened, but the last 2 times we tried it was practically inedible.

We just ate there Sunday night. No reservations and only had to wait about 10 minutes, but I'm sure summer would be much busier. We have eaten there several times, but this time it was no where near as good as I remember. I think the menu may have changed (or maybe I am remembering the lunch menu??), but there were only around 6 entrees to choose from on the dinner menu. I ended up ordering tacos from the kids menu :guilty:. Of course they came at an adults price and was probably a larger portion. We will probably skip this one next time.

Make an ADR just to be sure.

Order what you like. ;)

Go to Allears.net and check out the menus first. It is not the best place to eat in Epcot. We have tried it about 4 times over the past 17 trips we have under our belt and it is not that great at all.

I'm going to move this to our restaurant board.

gotta say we weren't fans of the food. didn't find it horrible, but not the greatest Mexican food we've ever had.

we are big fans of the Japanese restauarant.

I would try to get a reservation if I were you. We ate there in October and it was fantastic!!! One of my 2 favorite meals of the trip. In the past it got a lot of negative reviews but most of the more recent ones are very positive. Go for it!!!!:thumbsup2

Don't do it :scared1:. It is our "most hated" restaurant in WDW and we've been to quite a few! If you do go, the appetizers tend to taste better than the entrees. Request a seat by the water - its a very nice atmosphere.

I really don't think that the problem with San Angel Inn is that the food is not americanized. I like exotic foods and have been to Mexico (Not saying I"m an expert, but I have had several non-Americanized meals in Mexico :goodvibes). I think San Angel has inferior entrees - its as simple as that IMO. I would recommend dining in Italy, Japan and maybe LeCellier although I think their quality has decreased recently.

It sometimes seems like there are two different San Angel Inns from the reviews -- people either love it or hate it. My husband and I ate there during our recent trip in March, and we LOVED it. I had a steak with an absolutely delicious stuffed poblano pepper, rice, and a couple of plantanas. Wonderful. He had the "tacos de ribeye," which he loved (and not just because he liked the name). ;) Mmm, and I'm still thinking about the margaritas...

And yes, definitely try to get an ADR for dinner if you want to eat there! I didn't think the dessert options sounded spectacular, so rather than an app and dessert, I think you'd be better off splitting an entree if you're trying to keep costs down.

To be honest I'd only thought about us dining there because I thought it looked such a romantic atmosphere since it'll just be me and DBF :goodvibes: (never eaten there, just passed it when walking out through Mexico) although if the food is that bad perhaps we should re-think. I'll show DBF the menu and let him decide, if he doesn't like it I guess perhaps the Nine Dragons or something instead.

We'd like to ideally stay in Epcot since we'll be watching the firework show.

Can I ask, is all the food in San Angel very spicy? If so, can you ask for dishes to be less spicy (by taking out the chilis)?
So you are permitted to ask for items from the childrens menu (at adult prices)? As looking at the kiddies menu, theres one or two I like the sound of :rotfl:

We ate there May 16th.
I still feel angry about it.
What a rip off!
I did not read the menu or prices before we went so I guess it's my fault, but honestly, we eat Mex locally at least 1/month.
So that's what I was expecting, just w/Disney prices.
Wrong!
Their menu is so limited.
The food was only ok tasting & the waitstaff was slow even though they didn't look busy.
We spent more there than we did at LeCel. & got less food.
Don't waste your time or $ if you like the local kind of Mex.
