Yesterday DF and I went to Epcot to celebrate my landing a new job. We spent the morning in future world and then headed to Mexico for lunch. I love the Mexico pavilion, and had eaten at the Cantina, but never eaten at San Angel Inn, despite loving the atmosphere. We walked up at 11:15 or so and had to wait until they opened, at 11:30, upon which they promptly led us to a table.

Going so early was really nice, I have to say! The tables around us were mostly empty and with the mariachi band playing behind us, it made the already amazing atmosphere even more romantic.

The menu did confuse me; does anyone know if they recently changed it? I had looked up the menu online before we left, yet the one we were given had MUCH fewer options than I'd read. I'd say there were about five lunch entrees. Was this a recent change? I was a bit disappointed, as pretty much ALL the offerings I'd been most intrigued by were gone. The menu we received was completely different from what is posted at WDWinfo, with about four or five exceptions. :confused3

DF went with the 'traditional mexican lunch', which came with tortilla soup, a shredded pork entree, and flan for desert.

I ordered fried plantains as an appetizer and chicken enchiladas as my entree.

Our waiter, Leo, was...well, adorable, there's no better word. He truly looked no older than about 15  and seemed slightly nervous when he spoke, either because he was new or because it's always daunting speaking a secondary language, I'm not sure! But he provided truly excellent service! He was very attentive, personable, and friendly, and as I'd never had plantains before he showed me how he normally ate them and I tried his way (dipping them in sour cream and then sugar). And WOW, they were easily one of my favorite things I've had in WDW. Warm, flavorful, sweet and tangy and delicious.

My chicken enchiladas were a little disappointing...rather bland, though the black beans served with them were prepared perfectly.

DF's tortilla soup was very tasty. I didn't try his pork entree, but he said while it had kick, he would have preferred it with a bit more heat. His flan dessert however was a big surprise. I'm very much not a flan fan because I've never found the droopy, eggy flavor appealing, but this flan was so different than any I'd had; an almost fluffy, very creamy, light flavor. It wasn't something I'd order myself but as far as flan goes it tasted quite good. DF loved it!

Overall, I'd have to say the atmosphere and service far outranked the food. I'd give a 10/10 to the fried plantains, but about a 6/10 to the food and a 7/10 to the overall experience. Lovely restaurant and very lovely CMs, but I really wish they had more offerings on the menu. If we decide to try San Angel again, it will probably be just for a margarita and plantains. I think I could order two or three servings of them as a meal! :rotfl:

Thank you so much for the review! San Angel Inn was my DH's only request for this trip, and I haven't read too many reviews.

Dis site says it was updated 4/09 so maybe they changed it again. Do you remember if the Plato Mexicano was still on the menu? That's what I wanted when we go in Sept. Could compare it to allears and see which one is closer?
