i have been thinking about buy dvc points for over a year now ,but i don,t know if it is worth it.we have 2 children 6yrs and 11yrs we went to wdw for 3 weeks last year and before that about 4 yrs ago we are disney nuts and think it is the best place to go on hols ,let me know if you think it is worth it after paying for flights etc,it,s a big step for us,any advice you can give would be a great help.

It depends on your financial situation. If you can spend the money and never miss it, go for it. If you would normally pay to stay at a deluxe resort, ditto.

For our family, we just couldn't justify DVC, even though we are Disney nuts. We were there six weeks last year, but all were offsite in some of the non-DVC timeshares. The Orlando timeshares are some of the nicest anywhere since there are so many and the competition to be the best is so great.

We bought timeshares about 10 years ago when our kids were roughly 10, 8, and 1. I wouldn't travel any other way now (on purpose) because the extra space is so wonderful compared to hotels. The kids are 19, 17, 11, and 6. The oldest don't always go anymore. Having two or three bedrooms, full kitchen, washer/dryer, three or four TVs, and a nice patio or balcony to relax on is wonderful for us.

Just remember that the fairly reasonable purchase price for DVC is just the beginning. The annual maintenance fees scared us off.

You'll find people who feel strongly both ways on this issue. I would buy DVC if I had more money, but I don't, so I am very happy with the choice we have made.

WELCOME! :goodvibes

We just closed on on DVC on Sept. 14th, and I am thrilled with our decision. Our first trip home is in three days!!! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

We also just bought a 150 contract. I wish I did it a few years ago when I started thinking about it. I have stayed in deluxe resorts for the last three years and I figure I spent about $5,000 for room and taxes. I just bought a contract for $12,000 which will cover my vacations until 2034 (I think). The annual maintenance fees on my contract are around $500 a year. When I thought about buying in after our first trip the annual fees is what turned me off the most. I have learned more about the ability to rent points out and that if I can't go in a certain year I can rent out 1 years points and that cash will cover 3 years of maintenance fees (or close to).

If you can afford the investment and want to stay in deluxe resorts either every year or every other year I think the DVC is a really good option. You are protected against inflation and you don't have to pay the room taxes. Go to the DVC section of the disboard and read as many of the threads as you can. If you are happy in the value resorts or off property then DVC may not be your best option.

I probably spent about 40 hours (literally) reading every DVC thread before I took the plunge. The threads help me decide if it was right for me, where to buy and how many points to buy. There are many options and you have to make choices. The kind people of the DVC disboard were so informative, they were great!! After you read through all the threads if there is something you don't understand post a thread in the DVC section and people will surely answer all your questions.

Good Luck, It was a very tough decison for me so I understand your concerns. I am sure if you spend the time understanding all your options, pros ,cons, etc that you will make the best decision for your family.

We got 200 BWV points in June only regret not doing it a lot sooner. :Pinkbounc

If you are planning on going every 2-3 years I would highly suggest a small resale contract. you would be able to bank and borrow to use 2 years at once, smaller contracts seen to have a really quick resale, only a few points to worry about etc. You also might be able to buy into you favorite resort as apposed to the only one DVC is offering (but I love SSR...and own there). I truly believe that the contracts hold their resale value, as opposed to other time share properties. A friend who also owns at Vistana...may have paid less, but they have also gone through a major restoration. If you have any questions pm me. I don't know where you would be traveling from, so airfare is usually a big hinderance in me not visiting more frequently.
