Hi everyone
I currently have a contract in the process of closing with an April use year but would like more points at the same resort (VGF). There is another contract available with the right amount of points with a June use year. If I never plan on travelling between April and June are there any downsides to this? Would the points for both contracts still be under the same account/login? If I were to book a trip for the fall would I be able to make one reservation using all the points from both contracts or would I need to do two separate reservations then call member services to combine them?
Thanks

I would definitely not recommend to have two different use years for the same resort if you plan to use all the points for one big booking. If you would need to either transfer points from one use year to another which then puts restrictions on them (no banking) or make two separate reservations and with vgf being so small it’s hard to get certain rooms at the 11 month window at high demand times of the year. When they are in the same UY they work as one lump of points for that resort for 11mon booking even though they are in separate contracts under the same use year. It’s more work with only downsides to having separate UYs imho.

I would strongly suggest you only buy points in a single UY, it can be very difficult to manage 2 different UY's.

I have 2 UYs and have no issue with it, but it is at two different resorts. That being said, I WOULD NOT do it at the same resort!

April is the most common UY for VGF (at 18 percent of all points), you will see another contract soon enough (unless its small - in which case you are probably looking to combine points for one stay, making 2 UYs even less appealing)

I understand everyone's concerns and I'm very new to DVC, but I have 2 UY for BWV. I called and transferred all of my points in one UY to the other. I can bank those points just like any other contract. I plan on doing this one time transfer each year.

I called first thing in the morning this week and the process took less than 15 minutes. I then booked a vacation on-line using the transferred and "original contract" points (all now under one membership). It was so easy. I realize I can't transfer banked or borrowed points, but I can bank once the points are transferred. It really didn't seem very difficult or time consuming at all.

This is certainly a strategy, and it can work, But, if you ever need to borrow Points, you have to be strategic because once transferred, those points can not be borrowed for trips.

I will also say that the online site can be finicky and using transferred points at 11 months online has had issues, even when the same resoet.

I have two UYs and did it on purpose to cover different travel times, but the few points I have in my account that are transferred have not worked as well as I would have liked,

So, if one can stay with one UY when you want to use together, it is the best way to do it.

The ability to see your transferred points in your account, is a new feature to the DVC website, but it still adds a step in the reservation process. Also, this could cause problems with your points if you have to cancel.

It is just much easier to have your points all in the same UY, I know from experience since I have 3 UY's, and wish I had 1).

I just had this happen to me I tried to book with transfer OKW points at the 11 month window and it wouldn’t let me. I had to call MS and wait 90 minutes on hold for our 2022 NYE stay luckily OKW is a big resort as I could have been shut out of getting the room I wanted by not being able to book online.

Thanks for all of the comments. I currently have December use year at BCV and the VGF contract that is closing is April, I’ll be patient and wait for another April one to come up. That 18% figure of April contracts surprised me because looking back at past ROFR posts it seemed like there were almost no April sales.

I have 2 contracts, two resorts , two UY. The second one was a too good price to let go. I will tell you in 6 months when I will do my first reservation if I regret anything.

I have five contracts and two UYs. I view the UYs as two different people doing the bookings, because they can't work together.

This can sometimes be an advantage, like if you travel in the Fall and then the Spring, or if you need one time use points. But it can also be a lot of hassle, hard to keep up with, and frustrating.

My plan is to only use one UY per trip.
