Same day rider switch?!

Oh I agree with you. If everyone has a FP then yes they should allow the RS. My issue, which many others share, is when not everyone has a FP. That's where the loophole comes in.

If a family has 2 adults and 2 kids, with one child too short to ride. Parent A FPs Attraction X with Child 1 (that parent gets a rider swap for Parent B), while Parent B FPs Attraction Y with Child 2. That situation is literally what rider swap is for.

If we go by your "everyone needs a FP" system for rider swap, then Child 2 is just out of luck because there isn't a parent with an available FP to take him on his third FP of the day?

I think it’s for multiple people so that in the case of families with multiple kids tall enough to ride, there are no fights over who rides with who. All the kids get to go twice.

(RS is actually for 4 people - the rider + 3 addt’l)

No, it is for 3 total. [See below]

Which is actually not what the website says, it says 2 total.

Yes, when someone gave us one for FoP 2 weeks ago it clearly said the same thing - for up to 3 guests.

I disagree that the situation you described is what RS is for. RS was invented before the existence of FP. It was intended for the family in your example to avoid waiting in the standby line twice...not so the family can double up on FPs. IMO they should only allow RS in the standby line. Or, require everyone to have a FP. Otherwise it's completely unfair that a family of 4 can essentially end up with 6 FP each, including more than one Tier 1.

These rider switch threads end up with the same debate every time.

I’m not sure that closing this loophole is a huge priority for Disney. One, it has not been demonstrated that it causes more than a negligible increase in standby wait time. Two, it’s not a permanent loophole for any family. Someday, the baby will be tall enough and no longer eligible for RS.

As far as being fair...I guess I don’t get caught up in what other people do or don’t get if it doesn’t affect me. There are a lot of things in life that aren’t fair. I mean, I get to go on a vacation to Disney. Meanwhile, there are kids dying of cancer. Talk about not fair.

But what you said isn't the case for many families with kids who can't ride. If everyone were to need a FP a too short 4-5 year old would be forced to forgo a FP that he or she could use which is also completely unfair. If you require everyone to have a FP then you're basically requiring a too short child to get one for the ride as well since there would be no use in having the child get one for another ride that he can ride since there would be no adult who could get a FP to ride with him. This is a fundamental issue that most people who haven't had to deal with this miss. Travelling with a toddler who's old enough to know what they're missing is difficult enough without having to have him watch groups of people go on rides without him. A parent should be allowed to get a FP for a ride that child can ride while the 1st group goes on the restricted ride. The child is still having to wait for 1 party to ride but that's a lot better than having to wait for two. Sure - you can say the parents can just take the toddler shopping or do something else but trust me, options that don't include rides wear thin quickly.

I agree with above post wholeheartedly. My "baby" is 4 1/2. He's absolutely aware that he's too short to ride things that his older siblings can and doesn't spend his wait time contentedly snoozing in the stroller like an infant would. I think its absolutely fair that he and 1 adult can have a FP for something different while the rest of the family rides something he can't. I sincerely doubt that he and one parent having a FP for Winnie the Pooh, Magic Carpets, Pirates, etc. is going to make any significant difference to anyone else. Whether or not parent 2 has a FP for the the ride you're using swap on has no impact either -- 3 people are still going to ride that ride twice via the FP line.

Now that the discussion of Rider Switch Pass and it’s valid usage day has been completed, closing.
