We are traveling in 2 weeks with family and 2 members of our family are not going to be able to make it. They have salute tickets purchased from a different member of our party (not at shades). Is the military member able to activate their tickets without them present so they can use later this year? Thanks!

I have always had to show either my dependent ID card, or my husband had to show his retired ID. We have always been asked for it. Others will tell you that they have never shown their ID. From my personal experience though, I would say they cannot use it later.

Assuming you mean Disney. The eligible member or their spouse have to be present for activation. It is outlined on the WDW website in much more detail.

Eta: deleted 14

Yes I am referring to Disney. I found details on the solute tickets on disneys website but did not see the info about when they would need to be used other than before 12/15/23. Thanks.

You are right - my tickets fall under the 14 because we bought non Salute military tickets.

Here you go -

Ok interesting but sounds like this is from the date of first use. They wouldn’t be using them even for the first time until later but I know the military member has to show an ID to activate the ticket at the Disney springs ticket office for example. Just wasn’t sure if my step mom and step brother need to be with him when he does it.

If they are using the mil. tix, yes they (or someone impersonating them lol) have to be with them to activate.

Hold on.

Are these Armed Forces Salute tickets? Or just military discounted park tickets?

ONLY the Salute tickets have the requirement to activate and show military ID upon first entry. Regular tickets purchased on a military base do not have this requirement. Bases sell both ticket types.

If these are salute tickets, your other family members are out of luck unless the military sponsor feels like taking 2 trips this year.

FYI - The military member can probably return the unused ticket vouchers to their base’s ticket office. That way no one is out of pocket for the change in plans. But yes, the whole idea of the Salute tickets is for the military member to be able to enjoy Disney with their friends and family. It’s not so they can buy cheap tickets for people to go without them. Everyone has to be there when the tickets are activated.

Base ticket offices will NOT refund or exchange any theme park tickets. They are very strict on this rule. All sales are final.

They are salute tickets, that’s what they say in MDE. The plan was certainly for everyone to be together but things have changed unfortunately.

The intent was certainly not to get cheap tickets for people to go without them. Unfortunately it’s just a change of plans and they are trying to find out if they can salvage anything they have already paid.

They can upgrade to regular tickets. What has already been paid will be a credit towards the new tickets.

Or you can exchange the unused ticket for a Disney gift card at customer relations
Yes…. The CM recommended I do this (past Friday) rather than apply it to a future ticket purchase.
The CM assigned the ticket to me then issued the gift card.
It's not standard procedure so I wouldn't plan on it. Sounds like you got a bit of pixie dust.

I didn’t ask and no supervisor was involved… cm suggested it and 5 minutes later I walked away with gift card.
I’ve noticed Disney treating guests very well.. like Disney of the past. Disney is not giving a refund… just applying a credit. I think it’s a win/win when circumstances change.
