Salt & Pepper Shakers - which is which?

I ended up putting the salt in the one with 2 holes and the pepper in the one with 3. Also the color of the pilgrim's hats made the decision easier.

I just asked my DH who has all kinds of little known facts stored in his head. He says the salt goes in with the least amount of holes because salt is finer so comes out better than pepper. The pepper goes in the one with more holes.

I was always sure that the salt went in the one with the most holes. I know the set I have that has S and P on them the salt is in the one with more holes.

My boyfriend is a chef and is terribly useful for sorting out issues such as this. Salt shakers always have more holes than pepper shakers. It even says so under "salt shaker" on Wikipedia and the interwebs never lie. This goes back to a time when pepper was much more expensive than salt and therefore, one wanted to use it more sparingly.
