Salon Mickey

Hi,

I am hoping that some of you veteran visitors can help me.

I am considering becoming a shareholder, I have been trying to persuade DH it is a great idea for years, but now that I have a budget trip coming up and the share price has come down a lot, he is more or less agreeing.

I have a query about visiting salon mickey.

I have read that you can go in and have a drink, but the rules say they must be finished before you leave.
I am wondering if it is "bad form" to have a drink in there, and then maybe take one away for later? Is this not on, will I be stopped, or is it just rude to do so?

I don't want to abuse the facility, but it could save me and my friend the cost of my 5 shares in drinks alone this trip, if it really costs £2.50 a bottle of water.

People have been stopped from going into the park until the drink is finished. It is a free service for shareholders & if many abuse it they will just withdraw it. You can alway take an empty bottle & fill it at the fountains round the park or buy drinks in the train station as they are cheaper.

I wondered if it was like some rules at DLP, what is written isn't necessarily what DLP does.

I didn't think you were abusing the facility, I was just saying in general if people did then they would just take it away

They do try & stop people taking drinks in though.

We last went to Salon Mickey in December, and they had really tightened up on things. You had to choose your croissant/pastry at the door, and that's the only one you got. The drinks weren't at all well stocked - I suspect on purpose. You aren't allowed to take drinks out and if they saw you do it they would stop you, is the honest answer I think.

I have seen guests pocket unopened drinks and take them out into the park. I have also seen guests overstay their welcome, hog seats, and fight to get to the cakes. All of which I find bad form. ED are providing a courtesy service free of charge, and I do not think people should abuse it. I agree that drinks (as with anything else) are extortianate, but there are quite a few fountains with nice free drinking water.

Not ranting at you at all by the way - just angry at some of the folks that abuse the Salon.

Oh, I hope I don't see anyone abusing the priviledge. We will be hopefully going in October and I is going to be so cool, just to be there, I can't wait. A coffee and a pastry I think that's so lovely.

How many are allowed in at a time, is it quite a small place?

Yegads, I'm an abuser! It never occured to me not to do it. Each time we go in I have a hot chocolate, followed by a bottle of water. I usually only sip the water to take away my thirst (strangely enough, hot chocolate makes me thirsty) then put the bottle in my bag to take away with me. It never even crossed my mind that I might be doing something wrong.
I am a bad person.

In my defence, I would say that I only take one pastry. (Neither do I take food from the breakfast buffet for a snack later, or full lunch - but that's another story.) I don't consider that ED are providing a courtesy service free of charge, as I had to buy shares and pay a SHC fee to be able to use SM anyway. Just saying.

I don't think anyone thinks you are bad Unfortunately the real abusers; and I have seen a few, have made DLP clamp down on this.

Personally I don't have a problem with not being allowed to leave with a drink.
Nor do I like to see waste. That is why we have always made the troops share a coke. If they finish the first bottle then we will go back for another. Otherwise they have had a small drink.

For us the biggest perk about SM is relaxing in a peaceful haven

We are a family of four - do we leave the kids outside with a packet of crips and a can of pop?

The shareholder can sign upto 4 immediate family members in (children, spouse, parents etc), or upto 3 "other" guests (friends, colleagues etc).

I signed in 4 people in January (making a total of 5 people including myself) so I wouldn't see any issues with what you are proposing.

You will have no difficulty with being able to sign your family in to Saloon Mickey

As I'm just joining the Shareholders Club and will be making my first visit (in 13 years) to DLP in October. What exactly is Salon Mickey, and is it really that great that people wait to get in? Thanks in advance.

It is a small salon at the entrance to the Park where shareholders can go between 9 am and midday for a sitdown, a cold or hot drink and a pastry. There is a small entrance hall, a sitting room and then some really plush toilets.

When we were there in December, there was a lady who walked around the place twice (and we weren't in there too long either). I thought she might have been mooching around to see if she could clear anything away but I doubt it. Think she was having a sneaky look to make sure that everyone wasn't having more than they should The kids didn't finish their bottle of water from there, so we sneakily tipped the rest into their own bottle lol. It was lovely though in there just to sit and relax, away from the cold & busy-ness outside.

On another note, I wish we had a pastry instead of the cookie. Maybe they ran out of pastries by the time we got there. It was a big double choc chip cookie and it was nice but rather rich - I like choc but when it comes to choc cakes or choc muffins or choc cookies, I'm not a huge fan coz it's usually too sickly sweet. But that's just me.
