What is "Wanna Get Away" with Southwest? I've never flown SW before, but when I price tickets for our Feb trip, I see that the Wanna Get Away price tickets are about 1/2 the cost of the rest. What's the gimmick?!

The price is nearly too good to be true: $145 total cost per person from Philly to MCO, with 2 free checked bags :scratchin

That's with the current promo BIGDEAL40 .

Wanna get away is the normal discount fare. There are some restrictions such as you can only book these fares in advance. So if you get to the airport and your flight is delayed and there is another flight you could take you have to pay more to change because there won't be a wanna get away fare on the new flight the same day.

There are no differences on seats on the plane or anything though.

The fare sale right now (40% off) is limited time. If you think you'll buy, do it today or tomorrow. That's an awesome deal!

Yesterday, I saw $130 RT if you fly Mon - Thurs. Considering I paid that EACH WAY for my trip a few weeks ago, I'm a bit bitter. Yeah.

Thanks to these boards, I saw this and booked this morning. Saved $60 on tickets to Orlando. No discount on return since Sunday is no discount. But must make sure to use the code.

Wanna Get away is their cheapest fare, and is non-refundable. The current sale is 40% off the WGA fares w/ sone restrictions (no Sundays, certain dates, etc).

Although they are non-refundable, if you find a cheaper flight, you can get a credit for the difference that you can use within one year of the origianl booking date. The credit can only be used for the person's name on the ticket.

That Sunday restriction hit me in 2011, so for this vacation I planned it so we wouldn't be flying on a Sunday, just for this reason. Luckily, southwest.com offered a deal to make me glad I planned for it.

BTW. I did take advantage of the deal, but didn't get the exact price as I first thought. Still a great deal though, 4 round trip, non stop flights from Philly to MCO = $679 total. Including 2 checked bags pp. Best price we've ever paid, so far.

No my computer here at work is like a tortoise...the page actually times out before I can do anything substantial. I will do some digging around when I get home tonight. Thanks for the link.

I truly believe this is due to the link within the email that Southwest sends. If you go to their website by typing it in the address field (not linking through an email), it is not slow. I have always had this problem when Southwest sends deals so I never use the email links now.

If you booked southwest, you are able to change your flights with no change fee. So even if you book the same flight (same day, same time) or you change flights, they will not charge you to change it. So if the fare is cheaper, you can get refunded or credited the difference (depending on the type of fare your purchased). If you purchased a wanna get away fare, you would only get a credit but it is good to use on your next sw flight for up to a year.

I just wanted to thank the original poster about the 40% off WGA fares. I looked and was able to get 3 RT tickets from Omaha to MCO for $630!!!! I bought the tickets and then was able to use a pin code to stay at ASMovies for 4 night/5days with CS meals and 3 days at the parks for $1100. I then called Disney reservations to get a room at art of animation and they did not have one available, but I did get an upgrade to a preferred room at ASM for $20. I will keep calling for a room sooner to when my 45 days out are. We will be going 1-12 1-16.
