Salad bar.. what's on your salad?

Well until Golden Corral opens later this month, we don't have a single place with a decent salad bar.

BUT, we eat salads all the time and tend to have all our favorite salad fixin's.

Spring Mix Greens
grape tomatoes (sometimes roasted)
broccoli cut in tiny pieces
boiled eggs
red onion
candied pecans
dried cranberries
fried onions
blue cheese dressing or ranch dressing

Sort of a mix of sweet, tangy and oniony but really good.


DD likes the green parts and ranch--that's it. Maaaayyyybbbeee some croutons or bacon bits.

I like the salad bar at Sweet Tomatoes. Ruby tuesday is okay also.

My favorite salad bar was Souper Salad. Don't know if any are still around. All the ones here closed . Our local Pizza Hut has a decent one, believe it or not.

The only salad bar I've ever really eaten at is the one at Round Table. I love having salad there, but I've become kind of a germophobe and don't really like eating buffet style anymore. I'll sometimes muster up enough courage to do it if it's early enough in the day when they've hardly had any diners yet, and if the bar is not all messy. I won't do it in the Winter when sick germs are running rampant. My Round Table salad consists of:

lettuce
cherry tomatoes
broccoli
cucumbers
hard boiled egg slices
bacon bits (or Bacos, whatever is there)
croutons
ranch dressing
scoop of macaroni salad
scoop of potato salad

Lettuce, spinach, carrots, broccoli, egg, cheese, cucumber, onion, bell pepper, banana pepper, tomato, ranch dressing and croutons. If not ranch then honey mustard.

Wow, I checked, and there is one in the town where my girls' dance studio is, and we are in the delivery area.

If you try it ,please let me know what you think. I want to go there but I am the only one who really enjoys a good salad, everyone else is just lettuce, tomato and cucumber.

I just made a salad for Thanksgiving that everyone loved:

Several kinds of lettuce
Cucumber
Halved grape tomatoes
Shredded carrots
Broccoli florets
Cauliflower florets
Walnuts
Dried cranberries
Feta cheese
Sliced black olives
Fresh mushrooms
Yellow/orange/red pepper strips
Several kinds of bottled dressing

I love salad bars, the more fresh veggies I can put on it the better!!

We were in Lansing Sunday to do some Christmas shopping and I saw a new restaurant, if I remember right it was actually called The Salad Bar. It was small, probably only a few tables and maybe mostly for carry-out but it said it specialized in salads, soups and smoothies. Will have to go there soon!

I try to throw tomatoes in, for the health benefits, but they are the devil's fruit so I kind of have to choke them down.

I am so weird about it, I have to put everything on the plate in a specific order. If the salad bar is not arranged properly, I will go from one end of the other and back if necessary to make sure I have everything in the right order. I know it gets all mixed in together so I don't know why I am so picky about it.

Lettuce
Shredded Cheese
Catalina or French (preferably Catalina) dressing
Cottage Cheese
Black Olives
Bacon Bits

If there are cheese cubes I might put them on the side. Green olives are OK and will do in a pinch.
