It has always been a dream of my family to spend a night at AKL, but my budget kept telling me we were more of a value resort crew.
We're baaaack! and we had a great trip. Bob was a Super Hero and accomplished so many things I wasn't sure he could do. I have not qualms about traveling with him again!
The earthquake was centered about 30 minutes from out house here in Virginia. Out younger daughter came over to do a quick check of the house and the dog and all seemed fine. Bob and I checked again when we got home and we don't see any structural damage. There were books off the shelves, things off the mantle, lampshades cockeyed and pictures askew. But nothing appears to be broken. We did not feel it in Boston, but we were in a low building. Older daughter felt it in her office at BU and SIL felt it in her office too.
There are broken gas lines in town and some damage. Areas around us, including DC fared much worse, oddly enough. I am glad we weren't here!
Thank God that your earthquake damage was only minor.Hello to all the AKL Lite peeps. You seem like a very friendly bunch! It has always been a dream of my family to spend a night at AKL, but my budget kept telling me we were more of a value resort crew.
However after several years, the dream hasn't diminished, so we decided to skip a year at Disney so that we could afford the vacation of our dreams. I'm SO excited to say that I have us booked for January 2012....woo hoo!
So, I'm happily devouring all the info I can so that I make the most out of this once-in-a-lifetime trip. Since this is all entirely new to me, I'm slowwwwly chipping away at the AKL Lite threads and learning a lot. There's so much to thread that I'm sure I'll be spending the next few weeks lurking away while I devour all the AKL info that I can. So, I thought it was only polite to say "hi" and thanks for being a part of my upcoming dream trip!

You will find that we often stray off-topic - I apologize for the extra reading you will likely do, but that's part of our charm!

Question on transportation from AKL to the AK. We have a 8:45 reservation for our first Wild Africa Trek. Will we be able to take the bus from AKL and make it to the back of Tusker House by 8:30?, or should we drive over to the park?![]()

Hi RachelTori, and thanks for your kind welcome! My dates are 1/22/2012 - 1/27/2012. Eeeeee.....I'm still excited just typing them!

Good morning, Jamborinis and Kidanites!!![]()

) we're going back to Disney in October for F&W - have to get one more use out of my AP!
DH doesn't like the parks and will be very happy not setting foot into one other than Epcot. He loves Jiko, and wanted to try Boma. He likes Indian food, so I booked Sanaa as well; actually booked the lunch with the Animal Keepers. I also booked AKL with a savannah view so he could sit outside on the balcony with his laptop and my extra-long network cord, watch the animals and work. The AP rates come out and there's nothing available at Jambo House, but for the same price I can book a 1 BR at Kidani. So I did. You're the first Trek of the day, I believe. While the tour starts behind Tusker House, you will likely meet your guides at the front of the park, just inside the entrance.
Buses start running early (7ish) and it's only a 5 minute ride AKL to AK; then about another 5 minutes to the turnstiles. If you catch a bus by 8am, that's more than enough time.![]()

Also glad that you did not have any damage from the earthquake.OK, I need Kidanite & Jamborini advice!
As you may know (at least from the list on the first page of this thread!) we're going back to Disney in October for F&W - have to get one more use out of my AP!

Now that price is still really expensive, even though I know it's a good price for Kidani. For $200 less per night, I can book a 2BR at Caribe Royale; for $250 less per night I can book a 1 BR (no kitchen). (Possible 3 adults, which is why I was looking at the 2 BR.) We're also redoing our kitchen which is coming out more expensive than we had anticipated.
With the AP, I get free parking at the parks, and it's still cheaper if I rent a car for the week.
WWYD? This will probably be our last trip to Disney for a few years - believe it or not, I'm in Disney fatigue.
I will always advocate not to over spend your means on a vacation. However, if you have never stayed at Kidani and you are experiencing Disney burn out, this might be just the thing to get you excited about coming back someday. Kidani does have two bathrooms if you have a third person. None of the other resorts you mentioned will have animals out your balcony.
However, you are the only one who knows your budget. I've never stayed off property either so I'm a bad one to ask. I love my AKL, and I've stayed there more than any other resort at WDW.
Good luck on your choice!
10 more days until AKL!!![]()
Congrats - you should be dancing!!
