A sigh of relief is falling in my neck of the woods as it looks like we are missing Irene...(although you learn around here to never say never when it comes to hurricanes)
Now thinking about folks in the NC islands and further north....
Hoping anyone affected by the earthquake yesterday is doing well...

On the up side, one of my first thoughts this morning was that I was so glad that everyone at the world is staying dry and having a wonderful vacation!
Can't wait for ours soon!
Sharyn

Good luck at Fenway Bark!

52 days will be here before you know it. :goodvibes

Well that was...disconcerting.

I'm sitting here (in NW CT), and my house starts to gently shake (keep in mind, I'm in my basement office).

Went upstairs to check with my wife, and make sure I wasn't crazy, and...sure enough, she felt the same thing.

Come to find out: 6.0 Earthquake somewhere in VIRGINIA that was felt all the way up here.

Same here in central Jersey. Fortunately my son also felt it so my DH would believe me!:lmao: My son and sister were both evacuated fire-drill style from their buildings at work.

Believe it or not, we felt it in Milwaukee. Not real strong, but definitely felt it.
I felt it in downtown Boston! Mild enough, though, that everyone was walking around saying, "Did you feel the earthquake?" "Really? I thought it was just ME!" "I thought the window washers hit the building!" etc.

Sorry to hear this. Maybe they can just reduce it, stay offsite, drive down, etc.?

Unfortunately....wouldn't work.

We are (they were) driving down, they were doing the All Stars with free dining (can't beat that, by much, off site), and...since they were traveling with us, they can't really cut it short.

We're resigned to the fact it's just not going to happen this time. But...as I told my Mom....WDW isn't going anywhere. There will be other trips, other years. :)

Can anyone tell me where the Flamingo Pond in located at the AKL. My daughter is a big flamingo fan.:thumbsup2

We're baaaack! and we had a great trip. Bob was a Super Hero and accomplished so many things I wasn't sure he could do. I have not qualms about traveling with him again!

The earthquake was centered about 30 minutes from out house here in Virginia. Out younger daughter came over to do a quick check of the house and the dog and all seemed fine. Bob and I checked again when we got home and we don't see any structural damage. There were books off the shelves, things off the mantle, lampshades cockeyed and pictures askew. But nothing appears to be broken. We did not feel it in Boston, but we were in a low building. Older daughter felt it in her office at BU and SIL felt it in her office too.

There are broken gas lines in town and some damage. Areas around us, including DC fared much worse, oddly enough. I am glad we weren't here!

Welcome back Elin! So glad you & Bob had a great time. It's wonderful to hear that Bob did so well! :thumbsup2 That's got to make you even more excited about your upcoming F&WF trip! :yay::yay:

Happy to hear you didn't have any structural damage from the earthquake. We felt it here in metro Atlanta.

I'm so glad your trip went well. I don't know the details of Bob's medical issues, but from living with a handicapped spouse for almost 15 years, I know how wonderful it is when they exceed your expectations are able to get out there and do things you never thought were possible!

Here's to many more wonderful vacations! :yay:

Awwww, come on....earthquakes are FUN! :cheer2:

Hooray for Bob!:cheer2: Glad things worked out well for your mini-vaca!

It's behind the Uzima pool. :thumbsup2

When's your first visit? :)

October 7th. As of right now we are having a conflict in that we have never stayed at the AKL, and we are presently booked at the BC. Our comfort zone tells us to stay at the BC, but our adventure side is telling us to try the AK. We are so confused.:scared1:

Have you considered a split stay? :scratchin

I guess if you're going for Food & Wine Festival, you'd be better off at BC. That's going to be a very busy time around Epcot!!

AKL will be so peaceful by comparison! :cloud9:

 Something is wrong with my tickers! :confused3 I've been stuck on 6 days for a couple days now. Today is Wednesday, I leave on Saturday - isn't that 3 days???!!! :yay:

Okay, we just pulled the trigger. We are staying at the AKL, pool view. We even booked the Wild Africa Trek. We will be doing the Halloween party, and the food and wine, but just decided that we might as well try something different for once. Now we have to decide where to eat. And what is a that treat they call a zebra dome. It looks really good. I am so open to any and all suggestions for our first visit to AKL. Thanks for all your advice in advance.:cool1:

Congrats on booking at AKL!! :woohoo:

I did the Wild Africa Trek back in February and it was FUN!!! :goodvibes

The Mara is the quick service restaurant in AKL. You can get a pack of 5 Zebra Domes there from the refrigerator case for $3.95. :)

If you are adventurous eaters, you should make a dinner reservation at Boma. I'd suggest doing the Culinary Tour (3:45pm most days) the day before or the day of your reservation. There are "pods" with many different foods, African and American (it is a buffet style), so the tour will give you a heads-up on which pods you definitely want to hit!! ;)

Zebra Domes and many other wonderful desserts are located at the last pod. (Also, when I took the tour several weeks ago, we were given a Zebra Dome to try! :cloud9:)

There are many public areas to view the animals. :thumbsup2

Happy Thursday Jamborinis and Kidanites! :goodvibes
