If any of you have some spare time today -- I entered a Mary Kay contest, and would love some help on votes.:). There is online voting, and the winner gets 2500 donated to charity of their choice.(and the same to the winner themselves! That's at least a good chunk of a Disney trip, right?:rotfl: ) http://tl.gd/b62kdd

Not sure how I could repay the favor... im not artsy enough to make anything on here... But if anything similar comes up, I could do the same?

I just booked a solo trip to AKV in Sept...(not sure if I will be able to keep it b/c my MIL is very sick and it will depend on her health).

I have done 1 solo trip before so I am fine with that part. This will be my first time at AKV-kidani. I am not sure that I will like Saana so much...not a huge adventurous eater. I did like Mara when I ate there previously, but I didn't try Boma or Jiko as my kids were really little when we went. Is it a really long walk to Jambo house from Kidani for breakfast? I am just trying to guesstimate how my travels would be in the morning.

:woohoo: Only 34 more nights

Awesome!!

Hi Everyone!
I haven''t posted much, but I look all of the time:) We booked a CL room at AKL dec 1-8th. It'll be me, husband and daughter. Our boys don't want to come because of missing school??? (They are good boys and both get all A's.) They are staying at grandma's. I was wondering, we are thinking of booking one of the safari's available to AKL guests. Which one is better? Our daughter is 10 & we are celebrating our anniversary.

It depends upon how much you want to spend and what you like to eat. I have done both safaris and enjoyed both of them. The sunrise safari is $65 per person plus you need park admission. This will be a good size group and you will go out on the AK savanna before park opening. They do fill the trucks. The truck stops periodically so that you can take pictures of the animals. After the safari, you go to a private room in Pizzafari where a buffet breakfast is served.

The Wanyama Safari is $190 per person plus tax (assuming the prices on allears are up to date). This is a much smaller group (up to 12). In the afternoon, you will board a truck with open sides & a cover which will take you onto the savanna at AKL. After the safari, you will have a group dinner at Jiko. The meal is served family style and you don't have a choice from the menu. So if your family doesn't really like Jiko, then this isn't the safari for you.

Again, I really enjoyed both of them.

It depends upon where your room is. My first stay at Kidani, I was in the wing nearer to Jambo House. So then it probably took me 15 minutes to walk over to Jambo House. However, on my stay last year, I was near the end of the other wing. Then we had probably about a 10 minute walk just to get to the lobby of Kidani.

Awesome!!!!!!

Good afternoon, jamborini's!:goodvibes

You're all not going to believe what I did today:laughing: I must be out of my freaking mind:rotfl2: DVC has done this to me! Blame it:laughing:
Flying to WDW for less than 48 hrs next month to get a fix...Staying at a deluxe standard view studio @ Kidani.....May go to Epcot, if too hot, we'll just relax @ the resort, maybe attempt the monorail drink-a-thon again;)
We really shouldn't be doing this, so why do we keep doing it? LOL

ha! this would be so fun. ;-) Enjoy it!

You keep doing it cause it's a FANTASTIC thing to do!!! ;) DH should be grateful I'm so petrified of flying or I'd be begging to do this more as well, instead of only going once a year.

Also, DH agreed to let me ADD ON - WHOOOOO HOOOOOO - so, we're making an offer for a resale contract (the timeshare store) - hope to hear something soon........... Everyone wish us good luck that IF they accept the offer we make it thru ROFR. :)

Good Luck!!! :cool1:

Hi Everyone!
I was wondering, we are thinking of booking one of the safari's available to AKL guests. Which one is better? Our daughter is 10 & we are celebrating our anniversary.

I've done them both as well. The evening safari is much more intimate and informative, plus you don't have to be up at the crack of dawn! :lmao: The thing I didn't like so much was going to Jiko and not being able to choose what we're eating. We're skipping the safari next trip just because we want to eat at Jiko and choose off the menu. We may choose some of the things that we had on the Safari dinner, but I want to order off the menu.

Anyways, I do think either one is worth it, you just need to know whether or not the price, experience and meal choices work for you and your daughter.

Franandaj, I am already booked for the sunrise safari as we are staying CL just to do it. Trying to decide if we should do the sunset safari as well. We love Jiko so wondering what the food choices are after the safari since they bring it. That was my concern, that I would prefer to eat off the menu.

Also since we are definitely doing sunrise safari, is it worth it to do the sunset safari in the same trip? We go to Disney quite often and while I do love AKL, it is not some place we stay frequently, so might not get to sunset safari until much later. I was afraid the safaris would be relatively the same except for the savahannas.

Thanks

They are not at all the same. The Sunrise Safari is basically Kilamanjaro Safaris at a leisurely pace. You are on the ride vehicles and they are full of people. The guides talk to you over the loud speakers and tell you about the animals in the ride. The Sunset Safari is 12 people or less. I have done it with 11 and 4 people. You are in a small truck, the guide speaks to you without amplification (not needed in such a small space) and you travel around the grounds of the lodge. The animals that you see are completely different and they tell you all about how they care for the animals you see outside your balcony when you stay there. You get a lot closer to the animals and the tour is much more intimate.

As far as the food offerings, I don't remember what the names of the things were, but here they are. Everything was served family style. The way the groups worked out, we were a family of four (me, my partner, my Mom and Dad), and shared all our plates amongst us four, there were two other plates of food served for the other people in our group.

We started off with an assortment of flatbreads and dips.

The Jiko meal at Wanyama Safari (the Sunset) is served family style. You get to sample a little of each appetizer, entree and dessert. It was a nice meal, but the experience of being out on the Savanna at AKL was pretty amazing! I don't know that I'd do both safaris for a short stay (but many would - and do! ;)). How many nights will you be there?

7 More Days until Jambo Concierge and my first zebra dome!!

You made a good point though about doing both in a short stay. The time we did both we stayed three nights and that was about all we did. We did the Wanyama our second night and the Sunrise the next morning. We were so tired the last night we blew off our ADR at the Rainforest Cafe and just ate our leftovers from the previous few days in the room. We couldn't even muster the strength to go up to the CL and forage! :rotfl:
