So give me all your advice on sailing from Galveston.....

Flying in, where to stay, private transfers from airport or beach in Galveston, your favorite place to stay before and after.... and so on

I am looking at a Disney Wonder cruise after the refurbishment.

Our cruise was on a Monday last December. We arrived at Hobby on Saturday night and took a cab (5 of us) to the Spring Hill Suites in Galveston. We rented a car for the day on Sunday from Enterprise in Galveston. We dropped the car off on Monday morning and took a cab to the port. When we disembarked, we took a cab to Hobby for our flight home.

One-way car rentals are very expensive to Galveston because of a high drop-off fee.
Enterprise said the City or the Port (I can't remember which) won't let them shuttle people to the Port.
Cabs within Galveston are cheap and plentiful.
Galveston is a historic and beautiful city and we enjoyed exploring it for a day before our cruise.

Flying in on Southwest you will go to Hobby, most other airlines use IAH(the international airport). Hobby is closer to Galveston but DCL transportation does not go there. There are lots of hotels in Galveston and it all depends on your budget. Harbor House is nice and within walking distance to the Wonder. We've also done the Holiday Inn and the Galvez, both of them are good also. There is a new shuttle company(can't remember the name) that runs from Hobby to Galveston. There is lots to do and www.galveston.com is a good guide to get you started.

We got a week rental from Enterprise out of Hobby and it was cheaper then the taxi or shuttle service. Parking at the port was very cheap and right next to the cruise terminal. Flew in late the night before and stayed at a Fairfield inn next to Hobby, and the area was a little sketchy. After the cruise we stayed after at the Hotel Galvez and was very happy with it. Having the car was nice to be able to go to old town Galveston, and a different beach then what was across from the Glavez and parking was very easy when we were their.

FYI, Galveston is a port you definitely want to fly in the day before and leave the day after the cruise. Traffic can be horrendous from the airport, and fog often delays the ship's return that time of year.
