Does anyone have any experience sailing alone? Because of some recent events that popped up, my son and husband had to cancel their portion of the trip so I'm sailing in my room alone with my parents in the room next to me.

I'm sure I'll do stuff with them but just wondering if anyone has sailed alone.... what do you like to do? Any fun tips?

You can do anything you want! And it's awesome. pirate:

On my solo cruise, there were lots of things I did alone and was happy to! Movies, shows -- I can go to the events I want and skip the rest. If I get there and the show/event is boring, I can just pick up and leave without saying a word. Freedom!

Sometimes I felt like being social, though. My cruise had a few "Crusin' Solo" lunches in one of the main dining rooms. I also was usually able to find someone to talk to/hang out with just by wandering into a craft-making session or a trivia event. I showed up once to watch trivia and got asked to join someone's team!

I did the Palo brunch solo and it was great.

My next cruise won't be solo, but my friend and I are still going to spend some time apart, and I'm looking forward to cooking demos and maybe some time in the spa this time around.

I tend to cruise DCL solo. What I've found is that not only can you do whatever you want whenever you want but you also get to meet alot of great people. The ship has so many activities and even if you aren't sailing solo there are lots of times you end up solo just because people are doing different things. I always mean to go to the solo lunches but have never actually found the time as they usually clash with something else. I think as long as you are happy with your own company and can make the most of the experience you will love it.

Activities I've really enjoyed are:
  • Cookery demos - as these are over 18 you tend to find a lot of solo parents also go so you being solo doesn't even matter
  • Quizzes - which sounds like the worse idea if solo but a few times I've actually done alright and quite often others invite you to join their teams so you make new friends
  • Lecture series - again it tends to be over 18s and it tends to be a lot of solos just because one person in a couple may not fancy it etc.
  • adult anything - so if an activity says adult such as craft or animation you are definitely not going to be the only solo showing up for the reasons above so you will never feel out of place. In fact I have never felt out of place as a solo on DCL!
DCL I think does solo cruising well in terms of you never feel out of place even if you are on your own. You have the best of both worlds though in that your parents are still there so you can have dinner with them but not feel like you have to spend all day with them. Honestly you will really enjoy it

I took my parents on the Magic in February and we had our own cabins right next to each other. We did some things together but other things were more of a "we'll meet up later" kind of thing where we did our own stuff. It was an amazing vacation.

But generally I always cruise solo and always have a wonderful time! I can do what I want without worrying if whoever I'm with wants to do it (or can do it). I couldn't tell you if anyone is "looking at me weird" because I'm too busy enjoying my vacation to think of what anyone else thinks. And besides, unless you actually say something, it's pretty hard for people to know you're cruising solo - maybe your companion(s) didn't want to do whatever you did and are elsewhere. :)

Palo brunch and dinner are super worth it - I'm always treated like a princess when I do it (moreso than when I'm with my parents and/or sister).

Enjoy!!

I'm not technically a solo cruiser, but my kid likes to spend the majority of his time in the kids club.

What do I do? Whatever I want!

I walked the ship. A lot. I sat and read. A lot. I'm not much of a joiner and none of the things super interested me, but everyone I did meat was quite nice and welcoming whenever I was alone (I much prefer being alone, personally).

I have the opposite problem, this fall we're cruising with my Mom and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with someone else!!

Other than Palo, I forgot the things I like to do...

* character drawing classes
* character meet and greets
* a couple of tastings here and there
* grab a lounger on the promenade deck and chill out with my nook and a good book
* if on the Dream or Fantasy, Midship Detective
* movies in the theatre
