Sailboating 6.5 weeks after hysterectomy?

I realize every body is different and there's no for sure answer....just wondering if it's a crazy idea? It would be a short 3 or 4 hour sail on a 50' sailboat to hopefully see whales. I would be 6.5 towards 7 weeks post abdominal total hysterectomy. Recovery seems to be going fine so far, although it's only been around a week. I've been looking forward to this outing on an upcoming trip and then had to have unexpected surgery. I've mentioned the sailboating to two different people at different times recently and they both said I'm not going to be able to do that! They kind of burst my bubble. Am I being unrealistic? The Dr. knows about the trip - but I didn't specifically talk about the sailboating.

I would speak with your Dr about the trip and go with his suggestion. :)

I went to Disney World 2.5 weeks after a radical hysterectomy (abdominal) and was perfectly fine. BUT this was discussed with my Dr prior to my surgery. (people still think I'm nuts that I did that)

Ding, ding, ding, ding. Did you read the second sentence (after I erased everything else)?

This is between you and your doctor, don't you think? Isn't it better to communicate the exact details of the trip, everything, and then get the doctor's opinion? For example, the trip could be in 20 foot seas with winds of 40 knots. Or, it could be in gentle one-foot swells with winds of 4 knots.

I would check with the doc. When I had a c-section, one of my specific instructions was no lakes/rivers/etc for a certain # of months, but I don't remember how long.

Good luck - I hope your dr gives their blessings and you have a marvelous trip! I am scheduled for a hysterectomy on 2/17 and am determined to not miss a day of work if possible (on the computer at home :goodvibes). I think a good possitive outlook or a well deserved vacation is good for the soul. Best of luck to you!
