Safety question ?

I apologize, this response was confusing to me. Since I was the one that asked what you meant by half and half family, which I now understand you to mean biracial. If your Husband is also from a black and white family, how is he just black? Do you say that b/c he inherited more of a darker skin tone? I find this a little interesting b/c my niece is biracial (Dad is white and Mom is black), and she has a darker skin tone like her Mom, but we don't refer to her as black.
I wonder why they aren't 1/4th and 3/4ths......
Just so we are all clear I don't think either term is appropriate just trying to think in op terms.

So I asked my husband if he could carry outside of new York and he can. But he said he would not carry with his kids in the car since you never know if the gun could go off for some un know reason. We are still taking this trip we will just make sure we stay out of places that do not look safe.
You have been married for 10 years and have numerous, numerous multiple out of state driving trips under your belt. For instance, you have a house in Myrtle Beach, you drive to Disney regularly and now you have been driving out of state to softball competitions.

Yet, this is the first time in 10 years you have discussed his service weapon regarding out of state trips and have asked whether he can carry out of NY (even though you just returned from Orlando and have another trip planned in December) ? Hard to believe handling his service weapon with the family has not been discussed during the past 10 years.

He started with the state he loves his job. my son want's to follow in dad's footsteps but It scares me with everything going on today. He is only seven so I hope he changes his mind and wants to be a doctor like my dad, or a lawyer like my brother. I love that my husband is a trooper but every time he walks out the door I pray he comes home safe.
I thought you said your dad died in 9/11?

There are so many details, large and small in this thread that don't add up, I won't even address them because I will get another lecture.

...but, as someone who works with the mentally ill, I would like to address the suicide issue, even if it is off topic, because it I think that it is a very important one.

If a person is truly suicidal they will find a way, regardless of what you do. That being said, if you know or live with someone whom you know or suspect is suicidal you should take all precautions NOT to make it easier for them, especially if they are impulsive.

Please remove any guns, medications, or anything that you feel can be used as a weapon of self harm. Even if the person does manage to succeed in killing themselves I cannot even begin to explain that the guilt survivors live with under ideal circumstances, much less when it is your gun or medications they used.

Guns do have a higher lethality than other methods of self harm. Very few people who attempt to kill themselves with a gun fail. It does happen, but even when it does, there are often lifelong disabilities.

Preserving the life of your loved one is always much more important than maintaining your hobby or preserving your 2nd amendment rights.

If you or someone you know is suicidal or contemplating self harm, please seek help. You are not alone.

The National Suicide Prevention Hotline:

1-800-237-8255

I think this is excellent advice.

While a suicidal person may think of different ways to commit suicide if a gun isn't available, there is the added risk that the person may also try to harm others while in despair. I think the risk of something horrible happening in a household where a mentally ill person has access to a gun outweighs the need for the gun as protection.

Excellent question. That's bizarre, to say the least.
He apparently works for a very atypical unit. The OP has said previously that her husband has a K9 partner. Yet, in this atypical office, he leaves his dog at the station every night and it never comes home with him. Very unusual to leave his partner at the station every night since the more typical scenario is for the teams, the k9s and their handlers, to stay together 24/7, sometimes also vacationing with the family.

my husband is in the canine unit for troop f

the dog does not live with us they only have two dogs in our area, they live at the station.

Maybe because that's what the President does.

Oh come on.
What? Now that is considered wrong somehow??? Someone asked why a biracial person would refer to themselves as black. The President is the most famous person I know who is biracial that considers himself (and the populace considers him to be) black. I'm just saying it's not unusual for a biracial person to call themselves black. I suppose if they were very light skinned, maybe that would be different. If I gave you examples of people in real life, you (or someone) would discount it. That's why I went with someone no one could dispute the facts over. That's it.

No that wasn't the question. The question was why does she refer to her biracial children as half half but her biracial husband as black.

That someone was me, and that wasn't my question for the OP. I asked the OP why if she refers to her family, who is biracial, as half and half, yet her husband who is also biracial (or half and half) she refers to him as black?

Actually, you quoted someone asking the OP why they used this reference for her husband. Yet she refers to her children as half and half. I doubt the President has anything to do with it.

I'm thinking its of the line as the President is half black, half white and yet he's considered just black to most of our society.:confused3

ten years and he has never carried outside of new York and he never brings his gun home
Where does your husband leave his gun? My husband is a Sheriff deputy and he would get in BIG trouble from work if he didn't bring his gun home and into the house (they are absolutely not to leave them in their cars overnight). In our county, if a deputy's firearm is stolen because he hadn't taken the correct precautions on keeping it with him, then he will be fired.

Same place he leaves his K9 dog. At the office.
