DS10 will be going into 5th grade next year, and is really thinking he wants to be on the Safety patrol. Since he is showing a great interest I really want him to go for it.
From what I understand from him, the 4th grade teacher's nominate about 5 students from their classes, so he is uncertain he would be picked.
I encouraged him to inform his teacher he is interested in this, but he seems hesitant in doing this. I think he would be a good canidate. He's honor roll, due to he rides to and from school with his Aunt (a teacher there), he's there early and leaves later than most kids, he's very well behaved at school, etc.
I think what bothers me, is he will be missing at least a week of school in Sept., due to his trip to WDW, I am just hoping this doesn't hurt his chances. Also, he deals with many sinus/allergy problems and has missed quite a few days due to this (he's still within school guidelines).
I think it will teach him more responsibility and possible expose him to more new friends. Plus, he will have an opportunity to go to Washington, D.C.
Has anyone else's kids done this? Did they enjoy it, hate it, or was it really just not an issue?
