I have never had anything go missing from my tent. That being said, I have never left anything valuable in the tent when I am not there (it is always locked in the car). So, if anything ever did go missing, it wouldn't be a tragedy.

I believe that most thefts at FW, or anywhere for that matter, have been crimes of opportunity. Things that are left out, are a temptation. Of course it is best to play it safe and lock it up, but I don't think there is reason to be overly concerned.

We have a popup so it's basically a tent on wheels - I always :rotfl2: when DH asks "did you lock the door?"...um, it's canvas, what's the point. We've never had anything stolen - but we don't really leave anything "inviting" laying around. We lock up anything valuable in our van - except for our freezer but hopefully someone would notice a thief walking around with a freezer.

we tent camp for a week every year at the fort. we lock our laptops in the car when we arent at the site, but we leave the tv inside the tent. never had anything stolen

Call me naive or just plain lucky but I've never, ever had anything stolen from my campsite at the Fort, or any other campsite for that matter. I tend to regard most RV/camper types as pretty good folk and can't imagine anyone, especially at the Fort, wandering up to my pop-up and taking something.

I hope a few bad apples don't give you the impression that the Fort is a burgler's paradise.

We've got a fifth wheel (more secure than a tent, obviously), with an alarm system, because my husband's so insecure that someone's gonna come along and steal something.

One time, we got back to our site and the alarm was going off, and he was CONVINCED that someone had tried to break in.

Turned out, the cat had set off one of the motion sensors (which he had also been convinced he'd turned off in the room the cat was in.)

I bet your neighbors loved that! ;)

Thankfully, we were in a deserted temporary section of a lake campground - which was why he thought someone tried to break in. We've got alarms on all the windows, doors, panels, and motion sensors in the garage, salon, etc. We turn off the one in the salon when we're leaving the cat alone, but he forgot that time.

One time, he had a mechanic coming over while we weren't there and forgot to turn off the sensor to the engine panel. Didn't phase the mechanic though - he worked right through the alarm. Different security guards kept coming over and checking his ID, but we'd already cleared him for working on the rig, so they just let him be. He was there for an hour like that before we got there.

He said he had ear plugs in because he was working on the engine, so he said the alarm noise was nothing.

Dude, the noise is obnoxious. "MEE-AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. MEE-AWWWWWWWWWW. MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. MEE-AWWWWWWWWWW. MEE-AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE."

Cat was a cross between :worried: and :tigger:.

We'll try to be more careful at the fort.
