What is the best way to pay someone you are renting/transfering points from? I am getting a point transfer from another member and I want it to be fair for both of us as little risk as possible to either of us.

Thanks.

I received money using Paypal from someone I had transferred points to. I am in the UK and had to pay the fees but I was still satisfied with the "system".

use an escrow service to hold the money until the points are transferred.

it's not usually necessary and would add to the expense, but if you're really nervous, it is an option...

When I did a point transfer I paid half before the points were transferred in and half after. With this arrangement both parties assume some of the risk. It worked out great and I'm planning on transferring points again in the future:thumbsup2

Although this is very typical of how many handle a points transfer dong this most definitely leaves the member who is transferring the points at risk of losing half $ agreed upon because once that member has transferred their points into your member account they have no recourse to get those points back from you as MS will not get involved in points transfer disputes, especially if they hear money was involved because that is against DVC rules to receive $ compensation when transferring points. So if the receiving member decides to be unscrupulous and not pay the other half of $ after the points had been transferred into their account then the transferring member would be on the losing end of things.

What poster Chalee suggests about using an escrow service is option that presents least risk to both members.

I would think small claims court would be a useful solution if the selling party does not receive the second half of the payment, especially if they have a contract (or at least emails from the puchasing party accepting the deal and the submission of half of the payment).

I bet Judge Judy would be willing to take this case

Small claims court is fine if you live in the same area. I just did a point transfer and had multiple offers and the one I chose paid ahead full price and then I transferred.

The way I look at it is if I take money and don't give the points it is wired fraud - if they did not pay me they had the points and the cost it would take to go to their state and sure would be more than the cost of points.

Sorry, I do not think your small claims court plan would work. DVC theoretically does not allow the selling/renting of points.

Renting of points which is actually renting a reservation is allowed by DVC as long as the member isn't regularly renting at level DVC would determine to be commercially renting. Transferring of points from one member to another member where ~compensation~ is involved is prohibited.
