Safe Walking Back to Hotel at Night?

We are going to DL in June :cool1: and staying at LaQuinta Inns and Suites. I know it's about a mile away.

We are taking our 2 dogs with us, one a pomeranian, and one a german shepherd mix who will be spending the days at the DL Kennel while we're in the parks with frequent walks.

In a perfect world I'd like to walk them there in the AM, and back to the room at night. But I know we'll be leaving the parks late, and that makes me wonder if we're not better off driving the car there and paying for parking?

Is it safe for 2 people (and 2 dogs) to walk late at night, or are we better off not risking it?

Here's my two cents...

I am not concerned with safety on Harbor when I'm walking home late at night. It is usually well-lit, and there are most often many others walking as well. What I would be concerned about is the distance. I have stayed at the Clarion, which was also "just" a mile away, and I could not physically move by the third day. I was a physically fit 25-year-old at the time and after walking to the park, walking all around the park, and walking back to the hotel for two days, on that third day I was in so much pain that I just couldn't do it. We actually ended up leaving because we were so miserable, and never used our third day of the 3-day park hopper! After that I learned my lesson - either drive, or stay closer. I'd recommend a shuttle or ART, but I don't think the dogs would be allowed on. In that case, I would probably drive.

ETA: This is really a tough one. I just looked on the map and it certainly "looks" like an easy walk, but again shows up as 1.1 miles, which is far. I just hate recommending driving because $15 per day, plus the time it takes to get on the shuttle (are dogs allowed on the parking shuttle?) is really inconvenient.

You're not going until June, is there anyway you can book somewhere a bit closer?

First it is very safe, but you have a German Shepherd. My german shepherd does not take likely to people who want to do bad things.

Never had a problem in all my travels. Also I have yet to be walking either in the morning or even at closing and not have a "crowd" going back to there hotels. I feel very safe walking back to my hotel.

Lastly I would not mess with somebody walking a dog neither at the parks or in my home town.

I have stayed there and the walk was fine- there was lighting and it is right by the Anaheim Garden Walk so there will be others out and about. I wouldn't worry about it- especially with two dogs.

uh yeah i agree with that..

black labs and German Shepard do not like strangers! well ok my lab doesn't, but the point is you got dogs, harbor is well lit and safe, many other people probably walking the same way you will be going from the park..:)

As others have said, yes it is safe but the distance itself may be a bit much at the end of the day. BTW, don't forget a copy of your dogs vaccinations for the kennel. We had our golden retriever stay there a few times - the kennel is really nice!

Just avoid turning left at the first oppurtunity to go to Gardenwalk.

(Planning on cutting through garden walk to get home.)

That rode is dark an not well travelled.
