Safe to leave stuff on scooters?

I'm with everyone else. I wouldn't leave anything you would be upset to have to replace. Things happen at WDW just like they do anywhere else.

That said, my dad used a scooter for years (thankfully, he's on a new treatment regime now that makes it no longer necessary). In all that time, we never had a single item touched by another guest. BUT, I can't say the same for security.

At Universal one night during Halloween Horror Nights, he parked the scooter to walk through the three back-to-back haunted houses (one exits by the entrance to the next). We left a Universal shopping bag in the basket with bottled water and a couple other cheap things (snacks and ponchos).

When we got back to the scooter, it was surrounded by a regular park employee, two managers, a security guard and a uniformed police officer! They were carefully circling it, obviously hesitant to touch anything, and were quite relieved when Dad claimed the scooter and showed them what was in the bag. Turned out they were afraid it was a bomb!

It sounds ridiculous, but I guess in this era of "report everything," they can't really be too careful. I've never seen that at WDW, but we started leaving everything out in the open just in case.

Oh MY! That could have gone horribly wrong. i guess i will put all my stuff in a clear plastic bag.

If it was stuff with no real value I would be tempted to take them out of the backpack and leave them exposes in the basket. That way potential thieves would not be tempted with a bag that could have valuable things inside. No one is gonna want my half drunk bottle of water... I often leave things like that in the basket that I wouldn't be terribly upset if it went missing.

I never leave anything on my scooter. I have a small backpack with stuff for water, sun and rain. I would advise that you put a luggage tag on your backpack, mine has my name, email and cell phone on it. If your backpack get separated from you (mine did once) and no identifying info and security thought it might be a bomb, I just barely got back to it before the dogs.

Keep it with you.

You ( anyone not just OP ) have to use common sense and not get so caught up in " I'm in a WDW bubble" mentality You have to compare a park with a major city Would you go into a restaurant, bank, anywhere in your real life and leave your stuff outside counting on cops of that major city to babysit it for you ?

Need to be " streetwise"

Dishonest people take vacations, too.

it's not just that some people on vacaiton are dishonest. there are people there who are not on vacation. they are "working" . they are thieves, that is their occupation.

for the price of an AP they go to the parks every day and steal. in one day they can make up the price of the AP.

You also have to be especially wary at DTD or the resorts where they don't even need to invest in an AP.
