We won't be at park until early/mid-afternoon, so a morning ride is out. We thought maybe later in the day would be good?

Any suggestions on a time to try for?

thanks!

As soon as you can. I was reading reviews on Savor the Savanna and there were repeated complaints from people who booked the 4:30pm one that the animal sightings are disappointing sometimes because numerous animals had already gone back to their barns.

And be aware of the closing time, it often closes before the park.

Oh interesting, okay. Maybe we will book around 3.

It usually closes around 5 or 5:30, often before the park itself closes so get there before then. Early morning or late afternoon have been the best times for us. Sometimes in the middle hottest part of the days the animals like to hide

I'd suggest after you ride it check the wait time & ride again if you can. Later in the day the animals know to start heading towards their overnight areas so you may see different animals as they wander thru.

We got a reservation for 3:10. So we will go within that hour. Thanks!

Also good to note that Kilimanjaro Safari does not stay open for all park hours. We visited a day the park was open until 7PM and found out that day the final Safari was at 4:30 so missed riding that trip.

I'm assuming it will open until at least 4 since that's the slot I was able to book!

As soon as you walk in the park remember to grab the hours guide (I always walk past it & have to loop back) to confirm which attractions close before park closing so you can plan accordingly.

This information is also available on the MDE app.

- Open MDE app
- select upside down drop at the bottom of screen
- select the park you are visiting
- select either wait times, attractions or Entertainment at the top of the screen
- select 'Show List' found at bottom right of screen
- a list will appear. Click on whichever item you are interested in and it will list:
  • current wait time
  • details about the attraction/show
  • if it is eligible for LL
  • where to find it in the park (plus walking directions if you want to go now)
  • details about ride restrictions
  • type of ride (roller coaster, show, slow ride, etc.)
  • operating hours
Hope this helps

I expect that time frame should work well for you, especially if the weather is decent (not too hot or rainy). But the animals run the show there, so it depends on what they want to do!!

Our best safari was on a rainy morning this past August. There was a passing shower while we were on the ride and the animals were so active. The grown giraffes were running for cover and the baby giraffe apparently loves the rain and just stood in the open space taking it all in. It was funny with the driver making jokes.

True but as a solo I like something to read in line & look at  Plus I get tired of the phone.

I'd also suggest earlier. Some animals go back, most of them aren't very active at any time in the afternoon.

Some of our best safaris have been in the 3-5 PM range (or even a little later). We always ride it multiple times each visit and we have had morning ones that are almost no animals and then later in the day, it was tons of animals. But have also seen the reverse. But I would absolutely do one in the late afternoon. And often the line gets very short so you get off and can walk around and right back on.

The last time we held out for a late Safari, there were so few people riding that they made us wait for enough guests to fill the vehicle before pulling out. Then we saw the backsides of almost all the animals as they knew that it was closing time and were headed to the barn.

Then the lion roared and made it all worth it.
