So it's a slow day at work and I've been reading the Passporter Guide to Disney Weddings...and I came across the above dinner. I have a few questions:
1. Is it available year round?
2. What time does the event start?
3. Can I get Disney photography?

I'd be interested in doing this or something similar for our rehearsal dinner. I really wanted an Animal Kingdom reception but wanted to use outside photography. I'd be willing to use Disney photography for the rehearsal dinner though.

On another note - apparently the DIS isn't blocked at work anymore. This is my lucky day! :cool1:

1. Is it available year round?

Yes; you can only book 45 or fewer days out.

2. What time does the event start?

Disney's sample timeline starts at 6:30pm, based on AK park hours of 9am-7pm. You can figure they'll probably start it 30 minutes before whatever park closing time is.

3. Can I get Disney photography?

Yes! They have a "Roaming Photographer" for 2 hours at $375, with a hi-res disc of images included.

A response from lurkyloo herself! I'm so honored :worship: hehe

This event sounds similar to the Grand Gathering event that Disney offers. Is it safe to assume that it is something separate and that my party will not be dining with others? Would there be any restrictions to the day of the week so it doesn't conflict with the days of the Grand Gathering Safari?

Do we need to charter transportation for the event or can my party meet an escort at the front of the park since the park will still be open? And lastly, can my wedding planner (when I have one) set this up for us?

Sorry for all the questions!

:rotfl2: That's OK—it's a slow day around here too!

Yes, this is a completely separate private event—that's why you need a minimum of 20 people to do it.

No, the GG takes place at Tusker House; this one's at Tamu Tamu Courtyard.

That's a question for your planner to ask the park management, since it seems to vary. As you say, since the park will still be open, you may have a good chance of being able to walk in with your event guide.

And lastly, can my wedding planner (when I have one) set this up for us?

Yes!

Hmmm... now you've got me wanting to go on one of these! :rotfl:

I need to update my booook! :( I have been trying but have been unsuccesful :( I want to read about this same dinner as an idea for our rehearsal dinner! We were originally thinking of a Sago Cay Rehearsal Dinner and watching fireworks, but Animal Kingdom sounds so "different" - but what do people do for entertainment/ambience? Is there music? are there animals in the background making noise?

There are no animals close enough to Tamu Tamu to make noise, but the information packet on the event lists "entertainment" as one of the features. There's also a long list of enhancements that includes all kinds of entertainers—from musical groups to face painters to animal encounters—for a surcharge, so maybe that's how you get the entertainment. :cutie:

To update your book, sign back into your account in the PassPorter store, click on the order where you bought it, and then click the link listed under Download in the lower left-hand corner. :thumbsup2

I am so glad you posted this. I was just reading about the safari yesterday and thought it sounded so fun for a rehearsal/welcome dinner! We are supposed to get assigned our planner any day and was very excited to ask her questions about it.

I am so glad I bought the Passporter Guide to Disney Weddings. I always am always finding fun stuff in it and always find myself referring back to it for information. Thanks for all the knowledge you put into it!

Crazy. I just got these prices a couple days ago :D
ETA that might be the difference between doing it with DisWeddings and Dis Catering?

Did they give you a list of all enhancements for animal kingdom events in general? The $67 is specifically for the safari and karibu event that includes a safari ride and buffet in tamu tamu with a fixed menu. My consultant gave me the info at my site visit on Thursday.

Y'all are so helpful! Thanks so much!
Since this is new info from Disney, did the menu change? There is another thread that gives a menu, but sometimes those get tweaked.

Also, for the animal encounters, is it $450 each for A bird (reptile, etc.), per each animal that they bring? how long would the visit last?

We realize the effort it takes y'all to answer and please know, your help and info is appreciated!

The menu that they gave me is different than the one posted a few years ago. They only gave me a physical printed document so I can't post it (and I don't have a scanner). It starts with a salad with mango vianigrette...I am on my phone right now so I don't really reMember all the differences.

It only lasts 2 hours and restrictions on the amount of ppl that can attend. I don't know if you can wear a wedding dress. It was presented to me as more of a rehearsal dinner or welcome event. You can book the same spaces for a reception, but they have separate venue rental fees and Wishes event minimums. My inclination is to say no, since a Wishes reception would have to meet the $125 pp dinner minimums, which this event does not. The cost includes things other than just food and beverage.

Does anyone have a price breakdown for space rental, rules etc? Do we need to charter transportation? I am DYING to book this for my rehearsal!
