I am saddened to hear they want to close Carousel of Progress after Sept. and put in some alien Buzz Lightyear bumber car attraction - the only historic ride left in WDW - I read this on D-Troops.com - We as a family love the COP and am writting and emailing to the addressed listed at the site :sad2: I am guessing it's Eisner's way of getting out the last of Disney at the parks- even though he's not half the man Walt Disney was! :guilty:

Oh good lord -- not everything is Michael Eisner's fault! If he wanted to take "everything Disney" out of the Disney parks, there are a lot of things that would go before COP! ("One Man's Dream" and the Walt Disney Railroad come to mind.) COP is being replaced because it's the most popular ride no one ever goes on. Even open only seasonally, it's never full; people race right on by it to get to Buzz's Space Ranger Spin and Space Mountain. COP is on everyone's "must see" list after Space Mountain and Buzz and Stitch. It's just not a big draw. If you want to see COP stay, writing letters won't help nearly as much as a 45-60 minute wait time because the lines are so long to see it.

IF the rumor is true and COP is going away, the choice to replace it with something more popular was made a couple of levels down from Michael's office ... most likely in Al Weiss' office at WDW. If you want to level blame, at least level it at the right person.

Oh no! I love COP....how sad if it really does close :(

I hope it is going in June while we are there so we can see it one last time. Thanks for letting us know it might be leaving.

I guess I'm not the WDW fan I thought I was.

I have never been on COP. I have been to WDW 7 times in my life - with multiple trips to MK on most visits, and never really considered going in. Several of my trips have been during the Sept - Oct timeframe, so it might not have been open anyway. The other day, I had to look at a park map to help me remember where COP is.

Everyone has their own tastes, but I might not notice that it is gone - unless there is something in it's place that I would consider riding.

It's good that other folks enjoy it though.

I really hope this isn't true. Does anyone know if it is open in July? I want to see it before it goes, 'if' it goes.

I will make sure I try and get to it this trip then - I am always one of those people who is rushing by to get to Buzz and Space Mountain :moped:

Tell me this isn't true. My family loves this attraction & in fact ride it numerous times on each trip! It is one of our all time favorites. We will miss it so much if it goes. :sad2:

It was the family tradition to go on COP for a cool relaxing break to escape the heat and crowds.

We went on COP yesterday. It was one of our favorite rides also. We always go on it multiple times during our trip. It is one of DD4's favorite rides. It would be a shame to close it. I think that most people don't know what it is about or that it was at the World's Fair.

We love COP. It's a great big Beautiful Tomorrow is such a catchy tune!

I really hope they keep it. We really enjoy it this attraction every time we go.

 We also are a family who loves this attraction. :wizard: Please keep it.

the best way to prevent this from happening is to go on COP. if everyone who says they are saddened by the possible closure of a true disney classic attraction would ride it at least once a visit to MK and take others with them, the rising numbers would make management take notice. not only would the ride stay open but money would be allocated to spruce up COP which it sorely needs.

i first visited COP at the NY worlds fair and i was guilty of not visiting COP on many of my visits until last year. i went with my youngest DS and to my suprise he really enjoyed it. he said that he only went on it because he wanted to cool of and rest a bit. while planning our next trip he asked me if we were going on COP again and i said definitly.

hopefully WDW management will realize that closure of another disney classic may not be in the best interests of WDW. but only if enough people openly show their support will COP be saved and the areabeing turned into another character greet or a chester and hester arcade area

COP's loss would be a loss to one of the foundation beliefs held by Walt Disney.
That being to entertain and educate. How else can younger folks today get an opportunity to see how life was for generations before them?
How else, for that matter, can we today be reminded of how thru progress we can improve our daily lives?...and that Tomorrow CAN BE "Big, Bright and Beautiful!"

I guess we are going to miss it as we arrive in October.

My DH loves that ride & we do it every time..going to miss it. :sad2:

Though I am not surprised, I am sorry to hear this. :sad2: I could really feel Walt's influence at this attraction! :earsboy:
