jj....that is a description of 1 out of 4 reauirements that a MILITIA must meet. It does not refer to one certain individual. And, as kismet pointed out....ALL 4 qualifications MUST be met by that militia. I am not sure why you think it refers to the country's president.

It is saying that the MILITIA must be commanded by a person responsible for his subordinates.

Thank you 6_Time_Momma, I knew if I kept reading someone would put it into words that JJ might understand. It's not refering to the military person in charge, it is referring to a person who has decided to fight, is not in the military but is following orders of a military person in charge. By doing so, they are infact "at war" and will be treated as a POW per the Geneva Convention.

If we wanted oil, we would still be in Kuwait. We could cut off Israel and make a lot of new friends.

Give me a break. The UN was doing its job. We butted in and still haven't found what we said was there. Don't forget - we didn't invade Iraq because Saddam was a bad man who has killed thousands of people! We went because W said that Iraq had WMD and was a threat to our national security. LIE! Much worse than lying about having sex with an intern

I'm glad Saddam is gone! He was a horrible person.

However, never forget that Bush Lied and Soldiers Died (and innocent men, women, children...)

Well, I guess if you want to delude yourself, that's fine. The intelligence that the Bush administration depended upon was the same intelligence that Clinton depended upon and also felt that there were WMD's, but you know that already. I believe the WMD's are there, we will find them and the only recent president that has lied is Slick Willy.

So can we all agree now that U.S did break Geneva Convention - now matter how you look at it PRISONERS of war should not be paraded on TV.

Heck, if it was about oil, we could invade Mexico! Its a lot closer to home! And I am sure that any POW's we captured would love to say here.
:p

Wow, the further along this thread goes, the more nasty and insulting the OPs one liner insults about the USA and her people become..

U.S.A The police of the world -- well countries they think they can win in lol

Well said noel some people have memory lost or can't stomach the idea there country helped this guy.

Here Super hero's why don't you jump ito North Korean or China - Zimbabwe - Burma

Maybe theres no OIL there

For someone who so obviously dislikes the USA (at least our governing body) and a great number of our people, I am shocked you would lower yourself to set foot in such a horrible country and spend your hard earned vacation dollar here. Feel free to boycott us, sell your DVC membership. We wouldn't 'want you to have to suffer through dealing the the US people who happen to think that Saddam's being captured and exposted to the Iraqi people is a WONDERFUL thing.

You know, you talk about the Geneva Convention. The Rules of War. Iraq (read Saddam Hussein) hasn't been fighting within the Rules of ANYTHING much less the Geneva Convention. However now that the ANIMAL is captured we should play by the rules? Not in my opinion. The rules work when both parties play by them. Saddam Broke the rules, he (and his supporters) have no right to demand that the rules apply now.

There's no way I'll ever agree to that. Saddam was not a prisoner of war. The U.S. specifically sought him out, because of the countless atrocities he has committed. Again, the war was declared over in early May. How can he be a prisoner of war, when the war has been over for months? Lastly, he was not paraded on TV. He was shown for a brief period just to show it was really him. It might seem like he was paraded on TV, because the media is constantly showing the one clip they have, but that has nothing to do with the U.S. government.

sgtdisney come off it do you really think that -- i mean i've come in for a hell of a lot of stick here -- funny how you only quote one side

nasty and insulting

I mean do you disgree that U'S did help Saddam at one stage right or wrong.

Are the U.S rushing into North Korean who have WMD no am i not right again.

Was OIL not a major factor of the war ???

PS - i didn't say i disliked the U'S just that they abide by International Law.

Look at the bigger picture here guys - I want him tried for his crimes - not once have i defended him and what he did - just that the Law should be held up in its entirety.

It is amazing the support a brutal dictator is receiving on this thread. Also amazing is Three Circles and Travis (okay maybe not so amazing), maybe you two can incorporate dress codes, too.

And you must also be reading the Cliffs Notes version of this thread. It is people like you who give the meaning to the word ignorance. Let me define that for you:

1 a : destitute of knowledge or education <an ignorant society>; also : lacking knowledge or comprehension of the thing specified <parents ignorant of modern mathematics> b : resulting from or showing lack of knowledge or intelligence <ignorant errors>

So you are saying that if one party breaks the rules, it's ok for all parties to break the rules! in other words lets lower ourselves to his level, urmmmm I dont think so!

Many of you seem to be taking this as a personal insult, be objective and at least think about what you are writing.

This must be what a it feels like to be a fish. Someone throws BAIT out there and all the fish try to take it.

If there was a Geneva Convention violation why have NONE of the countries that did not support the USA file any complaints. I have not heard any report of it if they have. Also why is the opinion of one person, from a few thousand miles away, that important. He feel strongly that what the video tape showed was wrong, most of us don't. Isn't it great that we live in a land where it is okay to disagree and have your own opinions, without worrying about being kidnapped in the night and tortured then killed. So one or two people disagree with what was shown on TV. File a complaint with the U.N. I am sure they would want to hear from you.
