Saddam Hussein execution botched?

the way it went down is only leading to more chaos
Do you really believe that "the way it went down" will have more than a marginal impact on "more chaos". More chaos, there, is a given, since the Iraqi people aren't sufficiently invested in this whole democracy thing.

I find it interesting that the supporters of SH are the ones that are outraged at his "botched" execution. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't these the same people that were SH's henchmen who ran the torture chambers and rape rooms? Tossing people into giant shredders? Executing innocent women and children? Using WMDs on the Kurds?

Please, spare me the moral outrage.

We aren't doing any such thing. They're making their own form of democracy. With our help.

350 BILLION dollars
3003 troops dead
20,000 injured or maimed
600,000 dead Iraqi's
More then a million injured

That's OUR help?..:sad2:

ITA :thumbsup2
Although Saddam got what he deserved, the way it went down is only leading to more chaos. Chanting for Moktada al-Sadr, made it a legal personal vendetta, no better then when Saddam had his men "legally" (under Saddam rule) killing off shiites. It does not accomplish what our service men are working so hard to try and achieve. I did find the taunting disturbing, because I know it will only lead to putting our brave men and women over there in harms way even more.
Again, I think killing him is sufficient to piss them off. I don't think killing him and calling him names is worse.

Nor do I think anyone is in greater danger than they were before. They were trying to kill our guys before and they'll continue trying. No change.

I see you're still tossing out that 600,000 dead Iraqi figure. Hasn't it gone up since it was released a couple of months ago? I'm sure it's gotta be over 700,000 by now.

Honestly, I don't believe it.

What would you call that sacrifice? When a fireman dies while putting out your house that's burning up, yeah, I'd call that help. Quite unselfish help at that.

Are there really 600,000 dead Iraqis? I find that hard to believe. Where did you get those numbers?

Look people. There's a second video making it's way around the news and internet. It shows the entire hanging and has audio. In the audio the guards can be heard chanting political statements, insulting SH and arguing with him before he is executed. Now what some of you CLEARLY don't understand is that there is a difference between judical execution which is what this was SUPPOSED to be and a state sponsored lynching. The guards actions made the hanging look political in nature instead of punitive. it made it look like a revenge killing instead of justice. And by opening their big fat mouths when they should have been shut, they martyred Saddam Hussein. It made the new Iraq government look like a bunch of thugs instead of the democratically elected figures George Bush wanted and one of the reasons we are sacraficing 3003 service men and women.

Some of the more vengful and blood thirsty posters really should think before they post.

Troll or not, that's pretty well said.

Had we not been involved with these people, I agree, it's their call. Since we have been involved, IMO it's just further proof that the whole Iraq situation is a disaster.

Name calling is not a big deal, but chanting the name of a Shiite cleric who would love to see Iraq made into another Iran while Hussein hanged? I don't know...you tell me...positive or negative?

Then I guess the state didn't sanction that behavior.

Either way, it's still up to the Iraqi govt to deal with it.

Yes it is up to the Iraqi gov't but as a consequence of their actions on the gallows OUR troops will be subjected to more violence than had they kept their political comments to themselves.

One thing you left out in your analogy is that the fire chief was the one who started the fire.

Funny - last I talked with our troops (which is everyday)- both wounded AND deployed, they believe they have helped. I'm proud to say that I happen to believe them.

Well said. It's like saying we are rebuilding over there. Rebuilding what we destroyed with our bombs. What a crock.

Neither. Par for the course. All this hoopla about how things will get worse is silly. They took every opportunity they had to kill us before and will continue to do so. Nothing new there.

And if they hadn't chanted, Sadaam's loyal killers would still have been pissed off about him being killed. Too bad.

I'm not at all surprised that people who hated Sadaam said mean things to him. I can't believe anyone is! I mean, I do believe you all are surprised, I just don't know why.

Hating and killing each other is what these folks do. I don't see that changing. I've never thought that we were going to establish peace in the middle east.

Iraq isn't my big worry. They're done. They can now run around declaring jihads on each other (and us), call each other goats, and fight with each other. Hookairs.

Iran is my worry. But I think Israel may take care of Iran.

With all due respect, transparent, I often see you take this line of debate. I'd appreciate a few examples of how they feel they've helped, other than the obligatory "building schools and hugging babies" that we hear so much about in the media. I also walk through VA Medical Centers, nationwide, at least once a week, as my company does a ton of work with the Veterans' Administration and I am saddened to see so many young people being treated for blindness, lost limbs, and other debilitating injuries stemming from the Iraqi conflict. I get a mixed bag of opinions, both good and bad. Some say we've helped, some say we haven't.

I applaud the Iraqi government. Saddam was given a fair Trial, and was convicted and sentenced. The execution was then carried out in a timely fashion.

I wish we would do that here in the US. Instead, we leave them in system for 30 years, eating up the tax payer's money. I like the Iraqi system better.

Who exactly is making their own form of democray with our help? The supporters of Saddam? The Shia militias?

There are two sides here. They are trying to kill each other. And us.

Why is helping either side worth the lives of our troops?
