sad occurrance--another death of disney guest

I was at Typhoon Lagoon a few years ago and a saw a little girl, no more than 4 or 5, clinging to the side of the wave pool during the "big wave". She was gasping for air and crying. Mom nowhere in sight. I went over to her, told her to hang on to me, and got her to the shore. She was SO upset. I'll never forget the mom coming up to me and grabbing the girl away from me, like I did something wrong.

I really wish parents would take into consideration the depth of that pool, as well as the severity of those waves, and make children stay in the shallow portion. Many kids are poor swimmers, and the waves take their breath (and strength) away.

This post so brings back de ja vu for me. I was in the wave pool where a 2, maybe 3 year old got separated from his parents (we were in CHEST HIGH water!!!!! :earseek: ) during the big wave. The child "hit" me during the wave and I caught him...he was screaming and crying and I was trying to calm him. When we got to the beach area.....this "witch" came up screaming "What are you doing with my kid?!!!! :earseek: :earseek: "

I calmly explained to her that I "found" him in the DEEP area of the wave pool and that if she was indeed his mother......a cat would be a better mother!! :sad2:

Guys--I assume it was the wave pool...but didn't hear it. The wave pool was "file" footage that was shown. It probably was--but I cannot confirm it right now.

I am shocked that you guys were "saving" these kids and the parents thoguht you were trying to harm them.

Why do people always assume the worste about the helper--instead of the predicament the victim might have been in?

I saw a child drown at a local wavepool when I was a middle schooler. I'll never forget seeing that family...

I'll be interested in seeing this evolve.

Everytime I am at Disney I am amazed at the lack of observation for kids in the pools... The "lifeguards" and Disney feelings seem to make parents think that Tink is magically protecting thier child!

Now of course this occurance could have nothing to do with a potential drowning. Having been a lifeguard, if the girl was talking and responsive I would not be inclined to think she had been drowning....maybe something else was wrong with her.

updated in the first post--she was "sitting" on a ledge when lifeguards checked on her. No mention of anything else.

I'm not familiar with the layout of the wave pool. haven't been since the early 90s.

Terrible news. A 7 yr. boy died at Rye Playland's water ride yesterday. Hate to hear news like this. :sad1:

:grouphug: my thoughts and prayers go out to the family in their time of need.

That is so sad. I pray that the family gets through this OK.

I also am amazed how some of you have been confronted on helping kids in the wave pool. I am an excellent swimmer and have had experiences where I was scared in one.

That's terrible! :sad2: I can't imagine going on vacation and having one of your children die. :sad1: :sad1:

That wave pool is huge and there are so many people in it. :earseek: I was a nervous wreck when we were in it with our kids and all of them swim. :earseek: :earseek: It's a lot of fun, but the waves vary in intensity, one of them really pummeled me.

I know....it made me so MAD!!!!!! If I were trying to harm the little boy I certainly would not have been standing around on the beach holding him while he was screaming MOMMY!!!! :sad2:

I have also had a lady ask me to watch her 2 year old at Typhoon Lagoon while she went on the Humunga Kowabunga (sp?) with her husband!!!!!! :earseek: :sad2: Of course I agreed b/c I was too worried she would ask someone who WASN'T nice and who might harm her child. :sad2:

How sad. I've pulled several little ones out of that wave pool, as well as a couple half drowned adults. Not once did a Disney lifeguard assist. :sad2:
